Support from International Federations
Through Olympic Agenda 2020 and the Olympic Winter Games Working Group, the role of the International Federations (IFs) in the Candidature Process has been further strengthened. With greater engagement of IF expertise and experience, the overall Games risks and costs can be reduced.
Dialogue Stage
During the Dialogue Stage, Cities engage in open discussions with the IFs on how hosting the Games can support the Cities’ long-term development strategy. Discussions centre on how specific sports and venues can be integrated with the wider hosting goals and strategies.
Candidature Stage
During the Candidature Stage, IFs work with the Cities to identify the best possible venue solutions. An IF analysis based on the Cities’ Games Proposal lays a foundation for collaboration as soon as a host city is elected. This analysis focuses on both the technical aspects of each sport’s proposal and the legacy opportunities presented.
