Elevate sport

The Games will elevate sport by making the resources and experience of Utah available for the benefit of the Olympic and Paralympic Movement. Athletes from 30 countries train in Utah.

This will be the fifth time that the United States has hosted the Olympic Winter Games, after Lake Placid 1932 and 1980, Squaw Valley 1960 and Salt Lake City 2002.

Over the past 10 years, the US has hosted international events in all 15 Olympic winter sports disciplines.

Utah has experienced operators and venues that have hosted major events. The Utah Sports Commission has supported the hosting of 1,100 sports events in the region since 2002, including over 175 elite level winter sports competitions such as world cups and championships.

No new sports, transport or accommodation infrastructure will be required. The 2034 Games will be hosted in 100 per cent existing or temporary venues, 10 of which were used in 2002. The Utah Olympic Legacy Foundation manages three 2002 venues that will be used again in 2034: Soldier Hollow, Utah Olympic Park and the Utah Olympic Oval.

In 2024, Salt Lake City was awarded an NHL franchise (the Utah Hockey Club), which will launch for the 2024-25 season and shares the same owners as the city’s NBA team, the Utah Jazz. The Games concept will align with a local vision to reimagine a downtown sports and entertainment district. Salt Lake City-Utah 2034 has fully embraced the “One Event, Two Games” concept for the Olympic and Paralympic Games. Salt Lake City 2002 was the first time the Olympic and Paralympic Games had the same Organising Committee. Since 2002, the Utah Sports Commission has developed infrastructure to promote Para sports events at Utah Olympic Park and Soldier Hollow. Utah will leverage the staging of the 2034 Games to further position itself as an attractive destination for Para sports.
