Extend the 2002 legacy
Utah has been delivering a successful sports and Olympic legacy strategy for over 20 years.
Legacy organisations, well-connected communities and tried-and-tested programmes are already in place, such as the Youth Sports Alliance, established in 2002 to spearhead a community-wide effort to increase the number of children participating in winter sports from Summit and Wasatch Counties in Utah.
Building on these foundations, Utah is looking to leverage, strengthen and increase the impact of organisations and programmes that promote sports development, to support current athletes and inspire future generations.
Salt Lake City-Utah 2034 will use the opportunity of the Games to extend the lifespan of the venues from 2002.
The competition venues would be organised in two zones: the Salt Lake City zone for most of the ice venues and the Wasatch Back (Mountain) Zone for most of the snow venues and the sliding centre.
Salt Lake City Zone
The downtown zone would house five competition venues for Ice Hockey, Figure Skating / Short Track, Curling and Speed Skating, as well as Big Air. In addition, the central zone would also house the Olympic Village, the Medals Plaza, the International Broadcast Centre (IBC) / Main Press Centre (MPC) and the Opening and Closing Ceremony Stadium.
The compactness of the zone would offer spectators and athletes access to a wide choice of entertainment attractions nearby.
Wasatch Back (Mountain) Zone
This mountain zone (45-60 minutes from the Olympic Village) would host freestyle and snowboard events across three well-known resorts: Park City, Deer Valley and the Utah Olympic Park. The Utah Olympic Park would also host the Sliding and Ski Jumping events. Soldier Hollow would host Biathlon and Cross-Country skiing events in a State Park setting.
There would be two stand-alone venues: Alpine Skiing in Snowbasin Resort and Ice Hockey II in Provo.
