March 2024, 2nd edition - 日本語版

Welcome to this second edition of the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Volunteers Virtual Community newsletter.

A big thank-you to everyone who read our first newsletter. A large number of you took part in the survey, and you can find the results below.

Survey results

More than 75 per cent of you want to stay in contact with other volunteers from the Olympic Games in Tokyo, and with the world of volunteering more generally. You also want to be kept up to date with Olympic Games news and be informed about future volunteering opportunities. Everyone agrees that three newsletters a year is the right number.

As for online events, more than 80 per cent of you would like to take part in such events, at least twice a year, to talk about news from the Olympic Movement or volunteering. Even more of you, almost 90 per cent, would like to be part of an event to celebrate the anniversary of the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020.

Lastly, many of you are very keen to become active members of this community and help to run it. All this positive feedback encourages us to keep building this community.

Don’t miss out

We’re pleased to inform you that we’ll be organising an online event in May 2024. More information will be sent at a later stage.

Winter Youth Olympic Games Gangwon 2024

In January this year, the Winter Youth Olympic Games were held in Gangwon (Republic of Korea). You can see some of the highlights from the event here:

The 1,984 Gangwon 2024 volunteers played a crucial role in welcoming the 1,800 athletes, in addition to the 20,000 accredited people from around the world who were attending the event. The majority of the volunteers were female – 60.7 per cent of the total number. The overall average age was 29-and-a-half, with the youngest volunteer being 16 years old and the oldest 80.

Let’s have a quick look at the Gangwon 2024 volunteers in action:
