Inspired by Paris 2024

There are plans to host the French Alps 2030 Closing Ceremony on the world-famous, seven kilometre-long Promenade des Anglais along the Mediterranean coast. Such a ceremony, outside a stadium like the Paris 2024 Opening Ceremony, would be a first for the Olympic Winter Games. The Promenade hosted a free festival for the Paris 2024 Olympic Torch Relay.

In the years following Paris 2024, the 2030 Organising Committee will be able to benefit from the experienced workforce of the Summer Games and its latest learnings, to innovate and reinvent the Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games.

French Alps 2030 also aims to follow the example set by Paris 2024 in terms of sustainability. It has concrete ambitions to create more sustainable Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games, developing a sustainability strategy that reduces carbon emissions and encompasses all aspects of planning and delivery, including transport, education, and procurement.

It will be the first edition of the Olympic and Paralympic Games to take into account new requirements on sustainability added to the Olympic Host Contract. Games organisers will be obliged by the IOC to:

  • minimise direct and indirect Games-related carbon emissions, thereby contributing to international efforts aligned with the objectives of the Paris Agreement on Climate Change;
  • strive to remove more carbon from the atmosphere than the Games project emits; and
  • use their influence to encourage stakeholders to take climate action.
