Sponsorship by sports betting operators offers a great opportunity for the funding of sports organisations, clubs, teams, leagues and competitions. However, it must be considered that this type of sponsorship can involve certain risks, such as competition manipulation. This is especially true in the light of a constantly evolving global sports betting landscape – both regulated and unregulated.

New Publication

The IOC’s new guidelines for sports organisations on sponsorship by sports betting operators consider this environment and set out minimum conditions which should be respected when concluding a commercial arrangement with sports betting operators and entities. This new publication also highlights best practices from six different Olympic International Federations and the IOC. Read the document here.

These guidelines are the second of their kind, following the publication of the IOC’s guidelines for sports organisations on the sanctioning of competition manipulation in October 2018.
