IOC Young Leader Bio:
An IOC Young Leader from 2021 to 2024, Elena Mercedes Haro Lima is a former member of the women’s sabre national fencing team of Guatemala. She holds a Master’s degree in Sports Management and a Bachelor’s degree in International Relations.
Her ambition throughout her term was to generate transformative change in and through sport to advance both social and economic development goals in Latin America.
Project: Talento en Movimiento (Talent on the Move)
During her term, Elena developed Talento en Movimiento to provide sport-for-protection activities for migrant children, with a focus on psychosocial well-being, particularly for those affected by family separation or an abrupt return to their home country.
The initiative also promoted the inclusion of women and young people in income-generating opportunities, while introducing sustainable practices in sport. By organising eco-friendly sports events in Latin America, the project combined social responsibility with community impact, aiming for a self-sustaining model with the potential to expand.
