Alibaba is supporting the implementation of Olympic Agenda 2020 +5 through its innovative Cloud and e-commerce technologies
Exclusive category: Cloud infrastructure, Cloud services, Ticketing and e-commerce platform services
Since becoming a Worldwide Olympic Partner in 2017, Alibaba has committed to helping the IOC transform the Olympic Games for the digital era.
Through this partnership, which runs until at least 2028, Alibaba brings the power of its innovations across e-commerce, cloud services, ticketing, and digital media platforms to help the IOC and the Olympic Movement achieve this vision. This includes creating a more connected, engaging, secure and efficient Olympic Games experience for all the members of the Olympic family and the millions of fans around the world.
At the Olympic Winter Games PyeongChang 2018, the Alibaba Olympic Games Showcase offered more than 100,000 visitors the opportunity to see first-hand how the company’s technology will help achieve this, with fans, media and the Olympic family all able to explore different Games-related scenarios that illustrated the potential impact of Alibaba’s Cloud services and e-commerce platform services at future Olympic Games.
During PyeongChang 2018, Alibaba also unveiled a suite of Cloud-based and AI-powered solutions that have the capability to help drive the continuous digital transformation of the Olympic Games to benefit fans, spectators, athletes, venues and organisers
In December 2018, Alibaba and the IOC announced the launch of the first-ever Olympic store in China on Tmall, one of the world’s largest e-commerce marketplaces while earlier in 2018 the Chinese company’s cloud computing arm – Alibaba Cloud – worked with Olympic Broadcasting Services (OBS) to launch OBS Cloud, an innovative broadcasting solution that operates entirely in the cloud and supports the extremely demanding content production and delivery workflows of broadcasting the Olympic Games.
In July 2019, Alibaba was named as the Ticketing Systems and Services Provider for the Olympic Winter Games Beijing 2022, which will further harness Alibaba’s technological and intelligence expertise, ensuring a fully digitally enabled ticketing programme and modern user experience that allows fans to purchase and redistribute tickets securely.
The Alibaba Group is also a Founding Partner of the Olympic Channel.
