Professor Andy Miah is Chair in Science Communication & Future Media at the University of Salford, Manchester. He has been researching the biomedical, cultural, political and media structures of the Olympic Movement since the Olympic Games Sydney 2000.

Recently, Miah has given social media training to International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) athletes and led the Sports Media module of the IOC Athlete Learning Gateway. He is also the social media mentor for the IOC Young Reporters Programme and has contributed to the IOC Athletes’ Commission Forum.

Miah’s most recent book, Sport 2.0, covers all aspects of digital sport, particularly esport. The Japanese translation is due for publication in 2018. Among his other books are The Olympic Games and Social Media (2014, Russian International Olympic University), The Olympics: The Basics (2012, Routledge), and Genetically Modified Athletes (2004, Routledge). He has contributed to inquiries into doping technology by the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) and the British Government, and is frequently sought for views on emerging technologies. Miah is also Academic Adviser to the International ESport Federation.
