Marisol Casado

Marisol Casado began her sports career in running and field hockey while furthering her education, before becoming the President of the International Triathlon (ITU). She is the only female president of a summer International Federation.

Casado has enjoyed a long career of leadership roles, both internationally and in her home country of Spain. She created the Spanish Triathlon Federation and is the founding Member of the ITU. Additionally, she serves as a member of the Spanish National Olympic Committee, a council member of Association of Summer Olympic International Federations (ASOIF) and Treasurer of the Global Association of International Sports Federations (GAISF).

Casado has been an IOC Member since 2010 and sits on five IOC commissions: Women in Sport Commission, Coordination Commission for Paris 2024, Coordination Commission of the Youth Olympic Games Buenos Aires 2018, Olympic Solidarity and Social Development through Sport. 

Casado is a recognised role model and has tirelessly fought for gender equality in the Olympic Movement, not only in her sport, but globally. In 2017, she was appointed Chair of the IOC Gender Equality Review Project Working Group, which led a comprehensive review of the current state of gender equality in the Olympic Movement with the mandate of producing action-oriented recommendations for change. The result of this work was the IOC Gender Equality Review Report and 25 Gender Equality Recommendations for the IOC and the Olympic Movement. Talking about the recommendations at the IOC Session in February 2018, Casado said “These 25 recommendations aim to make substantial change and swiftly. The IOC is in a prime position to lead the way in brining parity in gender equality.”

Casado has a degree in Philosophy and Hispanic Language and an MBA in Sport Management. She lives in Madrid with her husband Joaquín and daughter Berta.
