After studying business administration at the University of Innsbruck, Dr Karl Stoss became an assistant there at the Institute of Industry and Trade. Starting in 1984, he worked for the Vorarlberg Landesversicherung insurance company, before becoming a partner and department manager of the MZSG Management Centre St Gallen (Switzerland) two years later.

In 1996, Stoss’ career path took him to Vienna, where he first spent one year as a consultant for the Österreichische Postsparkasse savings bank before assuming the role of Deputy Chairman of the Managing Board and Deputy Director General. He was a Director of the Managing Board of Raiffeisen Zentralbank Österreich AG in 2001, before being appointed to the Managing Board of Generali Holding Vienna AG on 1 October 2004, first as a member and in early 2005 as Chairman.

On 1 January 2007, Stoss was appointed to the Managing Board of Casinos Austria AG and Österreichische Lotterien GmbH. He took over the position of Director General and Chairman of the Managing Board in May 2007 and remained there until June 2017.

Additionally, Stoss holds numerous other positions, such as Chairman, President or Managing Director within affiliated and group companies of the worldwide Casinos Austria Group of Companies, including the position of the Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Casinos Austria International Holding GmbH, the holding company of the whole international business of the Casinos Austria International Group.

Since October 2009, Stoss has served as President of the Austrian Olympic Committee, and has been an IOC Member since August 2016.

Stoss is the father of three children and an avid Alpinist. Together with extreme mountaineer and Mount Everest conqueror Peter Habeler, he has already completed extensive tours in the Himalayas and the Andes, among other projects.
