Dr Holger Preuss is Professor of Sport Economics and Sport Sociology at the Johannes Gutenberg University in Mainz, Germany, and at the Molde University College, Norway. He is also adjunct professor at the University of Ottawa, Canada, and an international scholar at the State University of New York (Cortland).

He was editor of European Sport Management Quarterly, one of the world’s leading journals in sport management, from 2012 to 2014. He is associate editor of the Journal of Sport & Tourism. Preuss has published 16 books and more than 125 articles in international journals and books. During the past decade, he has been invited to deliver more than 140 presentations all over the world.

Preuss’ field of research is directed at economic and socio-economic aspects of sport. His specialty lies in the socio-economic impact analysis of mega-sport events such as the Olympic Games since 1972 and the FIFA World Cup since 2006. He recently completed his research on cost overruns at Olympic Games, and continuously develops the framework and measurement legacy of mega events.

Preuss is member of the IOC Legacy and Sustainability Commission, the Union Internationale de Pentathlon Moderne (UIPM) Future Commission, and the World Flying Disc Federation (WFDF) Ethics Commission

Using the unique power of sport to bring people together, the Olympism in Action Forum saw a range of global players, including Olympic Movement stakeholders, athletes, private and public sector leaders, NGO representatives, academics, artists and the media come together to talk on topical contemporary issues. Chosen because of their ability to effect change and their wide range of sometimes differing opinions, the speakers led lively debates and seeked to challenge received wisdom to inspire new ways of thinking.
