Sport Climbing World Champion

2014 Sport Climbing World Champion Charlotte Durif spent much of her childhood climbing with her dad and brother before starting to compete at the age of 10. Four years later, she joined the French national team and began competing internationally.

Durif has had an impressive career, with titles including World Champion, European Champion, five-time Youth World Champion and 16-time French Champion. She retired from competition in 2016 after placing third at the World Championship and decided to turn her focus to outdoor climbing; she has since become one of the best and most versatile climbers.

In 2014, Charlotte became a member of International Federation of Sport Climbing (IFSC) Athletes’ Commission and soon after joined the Executive Board of the European and French Sport Climbing Federation as athletes’ representative.

Durif is extremely excited about her role as an Athlete Role Model at the Youth Olympic Games Buenos Aires 2018, and is looking forward to the opportunity to share her experiences with young athletes, both on and off the field of play.

Now 28, Durif is an engineer and recently graduated with a doctorate in material science. She is currently traveling the world, climbing throughout the continents, sharing her passion, skills and the values she has learned through her sport with climbing communities worldwide.

Using the unique power of sport to bring people together, the Olympism in Action Forum saw a range of global players, including Olympic Movement stakeholders, athletes, private and public sector leaders, NGO representatives, academics, artists and the media come together to talk on topical contemporary issues. Chosen because of their ability to effect change and their wide range of sometimes differing opinions, the speakers led lively debates and seeked to challenge received wisdom to inspire new ways of thinking.
