Art at the village

Painting the Olympic values at Gngneung Olympic village

An art initiative created during the Olympic Winter Games PyeongChang 2018 within the scope of the Artists in residence programme led by the Olympic Foundation for Culture and heritage (OFCH)

Roald Bradstock - 111 athletes from 39 countries made this collective work in PyeongChang

For the first time, ever, over 111 Olympians from over 39 countries came together to create Olympic art! The IOC President Thomas Bach, the World Olympians Association (WOA) President Joel Bouzou, and even HSH Prince Albert II of Monaco have contributed to the paintings!

This art initiative was organised by Olympians for Olympians by Olympians and created and shown in Gangneung Olympic Village during the 2018 Olympic Winter Games. Olympic athletes using a brush and paint will, collectively, produced 15 paintings, at the rate of one per day, each individual painting representing one of the 15 Olympic winter sports. When combined, the 15 paintings became one painting revealing the Olympic values which are at the heart of this initiative.

Three Olympians, from past editions of the Games, who are also artists, have been working on the field to oversee this project : Roald Bradstock (a two-time Olympic javelin thrower for Great-Britain), Lanny Barnes (a three-time Olympic biathlete and professional artist from the USA.) and Jean Blaise Evequoz (a Swiss artist who competed in fencing in the 1976 Olympic Games).
