30 October 2024 - NOC President Camilo Pérez López Moreira, who is also an IOC Member, recently met his Uruguayan counterpart, Fernando Ucha Martínez, on an official visit to Montevideo (Uruguay). The two NOCs signed a cooperation agreement that aims to promote athlete training in the two countries. This agreement is an important step towards greater sporting cooperation between Paraguay and Uruguay, strengthening the links between the two nations with a view to a more competitive and solid future for sport in South America. 05 July 2024 - Olympic Week concluded on 22 June with an Olympic run that brought together the Paraguayan Olympic family and numerous athletes on the promenade in Asunción. 25 June 2024 - The NOC officially presented the team that will be going to the Games in Paris at a ceremony with the theme “El Equipo de Todos” (“Everyone’s Team”) on 18 June. Those attending included Paraguayan President Santiago Peña, NOC President and IOC Member Camilo Pérez López Moreira and Sports Minister César Ramírez. The names of the two flagbearers at the Opening Ceremony were also announced: Fabrizio Zanotti and Alejandra Alonso. More details here. Several talks were organised as part of Olympic Week. Talks on high-level sport and health brought together national coaches and athletes. A Forum for athletes also addressed the issues of communication and finance. In addition, OLY diplomas from the World Olympians Association (WOA) were presented to Paraguayan Olympic athletes who have competed at the Games since Munich 1972. Info at www.cop.org.py.
27 May 2024 - A workshop was organised recently for athletes looking ahead to the Olympic Games Paris 2024 and the Pan American Youth Games Asunción 2025. Two themes were addressed: the use of marks, and doping. The workshop’s aim was to educate and inform the athletes on these subjects for the upcoming competitions. More details here. In addition, the 33 participants on the 2023 advanced sports management course received their diplomas in a ceremony organised in early May in the presence of NOC President and IOC Member Camilo Pérez López Moreira. 30 April 2024 - The NOC and the Paraguayan Cycling Federation have signed an agreement with Spanish cyclist Carlos Coloma to promote the development of cycling in Paraguay. The agreement aims to create model schools to train the future generations of Paraguayan cyclists, providing opportunities to compete at international level. Coloma competed in mountain biking at three Olympic Games (Beijing 2008, London 2012 and Rio 2016), and won a bronze medal in Rio. This agreement will draw on his experience to design the schools. 22 April 2024 - The Paraguayan Olympic Park recently hosted the Paralympic Training Day and the Paralympic Festival in the framework of the ELI 3 project (On your marks, get set… inclusion - En sus marcas, listos… inclusión) Paraguay 2024. On this occasion, sports demonstrations and talks were organised on the Paralympic Movement, the concept of disability and the Paralympic values, featuring various national international speakers. The event was held in the presence of NOC President Camilo Pérez López Moreira, International Paralympic Committee (IPC) President) Andrew Parsons – both IOC Members – and the President of the Paraguayan Paralympic Committee, Juan Fernández. In addition, the high-performance sports centre for young Paraguayan talent (CARDIF - Centro de Alto Rendimiento Deportivo de las Divisiones Formativas) was inaugurated in the Olympic Park. Every day, this centre will host over 2,000 young athletes aged 14 to 18, with a unique continental-level infrastructure. Also present at the inauguration were the President of the Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) and IOC Member, Gianni Infantino, Sports Minister César Ramírez, and numerous sports leaders. 15 April 2024 - At the NOC’s Ordinary General Assembly, the 2023 annual report and balance sheet were presented and approved by the participants. The General Assembly, attended by NOC President and IOC Member Camilo Pérez López Moreira, brought together the members of the NOC’s Executive Committee and the presidents and leaders of national sports associations and federations. 19 March 2024 - Four months before the start of the Olympic Games Paris 2024, students from the French International “Marcel Pagnol” School in Asunción have taken part in an athletics competition in the Olympic Park. They were joined by the team from the Paraguayan Athletics Federation and pupils from other schools in the Paraguayan capital. Members of the NOC’s Executive Committee and national sports authorities, as well as the French Ambassador to Paraguay were also present at this event, which was above all a great celebration of sport, organised as part of the “Rumbo a Paris 2024” (On the Road to Paris 2024) campaign. 15 January 2024 - Some 1,500 children took part in an event organised by the NOC to celebrate Epiphany on 6 January. The event was held in the Olympic Park, in the present of the President of the Republic, Santiago Peña, First Lady Leticia Ocampos, NOC leadership, athletes and the Paraguayan team mascot, Tirika. 04 december 2023 - Children from the French lycée in Asunción took part in a sports day at the Olympic Park, as part of an event dubbed the Pequeños Juegos Olímpicos. With the whole NOC team in attendance, the children participated in a range of activities and met the Paraguay team’s official mascot, Tirika. More info here.
27 November 2023 - On 17 and 18 November, the NOC headquarters hosted an international forum on diversity, inclusion and gender equality, attended by around 80 representatives of federations, organisations and institutions active in the field of sport. Organised by the NOC’s gender equality commission, the forum provided a platform for discussion and underlined the need to continue working collaboratively to achieve gender equality in sport. 20 November 2023 - The NOC headquarters hosted an award ceremony for a short story competition organised by the National Congress Cultural Centre, with the support of the Olympic Academy and the NOC. The 2023 edition bore the name of the mascot of the Santiago 2022 South American Games and the Paraguayan team, Tirika. More detailed here.
10 October 2023 - The NOC’s athletes’ commission has held its first workshop for athletes on self-knowledge and writing a curriculum vitae. The workshop was held in cooperation with the IOC’s Athlete365, platform. The topics covered included “strengths and values”, “objectives and planning” and “CVs and cover letters”. 04 September 2023 - The COP has signed an agreement with financial company Ueno, demonstrating the desire of both institutions to continue promoting the development of sport in Paraguay. The main focus of this four-year partnership will be investment in technology, state-of-the-art equipment in sports facilities and financial support for the COP. A number of athletes and various personalities were present for the announcement of the partnership. More details on www.cop.org.py.
27 June 2023 - Sport, dance and entertainment were on the Olympic Day programme organised by the NOC. Numerous athletes, NOC staff and sports enthusiasts were at the Olympic Park to enjoy this Day held to promote the benefits of sport and the Olympic values. Details on www.cop.org.py.
13 June 2023 - On 4 June in Asuncion, the NOC took part in the Comilona de teletón, a fundraising gastronomy festival with the slogan #UniteAEstaGranMesa. As well as preparing a number of dishes, the NOC held sports demonstrations. This was part of the NOC’s ongoing efforts to promote the Olympic values. More details here. In addition, the 25 advanced sports management course participants received their diplomas at a ceremony held on 9 June. 06 June 2023 - The NOC has announced that the Paraguayan team for the Special Olympics taking place from 17 to 25 June this year in Berlin, Germany, received the national flag from Paraguayan President Mario Abdo Benítez at a ceremony held at the government headquarters on 29 May. As well as the 55 athletes who make up the delegation, other attendees included Sports Minister Diego Galeano Harrison, the President of Special Olympics Paraguay, Luis Cáceres Brun, and NOC President and IOC Member Camilo Pérez López Moreira. During the ceremony, the official logo of the 4th Latin American Special Olympics was unveiled to the public. These games will be held in Asunción, Paraguay, in October 2024. More details here.
