02 December 2024 - An OOC delegation took part in the 22nd General Assembly of the Union of Arab National Olympic Committees, recently held in Amman, Jordan. During the meeting, it was announced that Bahrain would host the 17th Arab Games in 2031, while Jordan was granted the right to host the 18th edition in 2035. More info here. In addition, three Omanis have been appointed to Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) committees in recognition of their sporting expertise and competence. They will serve for the 2024–2028 term. 22 November 2024 - Sayyidah Sanaa Hamad Al-Busaidi, Chairwoman of the Oman Women's Sports and Gender Equality Committee, along with Vice-Chairwoman Sa’adah Al-Ismailiyah and Committee member Manal Al-Kiyumi, participated in the third meeting of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Women's Sports Advisory Committee held in Abu Dhabi (United Arab Emirates). A report on the Hackathon event hosted by Oman from 1 to 4 March 2024 was presented, along with updates on the Gulf Women's Sports electronic platform. 15 November 2024 - Sayyidah Sanaa Hamad Al-Busaidi, Chairwoman of the Oman Women Sports Gender Equality Committee, has been awarded the "Pioneers in Sports" Prize as part of the Fatima Mubarak Award for Women’s Sports for 2024, its eighth edition. The ceremony took place in the UAE capital, Abu Dhabi, under the patronage of Her Highness Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak, President of the General Women's Union. This award recognises Sayyidah Sanaa’s contributions to women's sport in Oman and represents an acknowledgment of her ongoing efforts to support women's participation both locally and regionally. She has worked diligently to develop programmes and initiatives that enhance the presence of Omani women in sport, and she has played a key role in formulating plans to support Omani female athletes and develop their skills across various sporting disciplines. The Fatima Mubarak Award for Women’s Sports is one of the most prominent awards honouring leading women in the sports field across the Arab world. Info at www.ooc.om.
20 September 2024 - The OOC Board of Directors held its third meeting of 2024, led by OOC Chair Khalid bin Muhammad Al-Zubair. Among the main items on the agenda were the latest developments regarding the draft amendments to the OOC statutes, and the OOC Museum project. In this respect, it was noted that work on the museum is proceeding according to schedule, with an expected opening by the end of this year. 05 July 2024 - A meeting was held recently between Taha bin Sulaiman Al-Kishri, OOC Secretary General, and Amjad Malik Aziz, Secretary General of the Asian Sports Press Federation (ASPF). The partnership between the NOCs and sports institutions in Asia and the ASPF, and the exchange of experiences in the media generally, and sports journalism in particular, were discussed, together with opportunities to enhance the role of sports media in the region and their importance in promoting sports culture and spreading the Olympic values among young people. 17 June 2024 - Ahead of the upcoming Olympic Games Paris 2024, the French Embassy in the Sultanate of Oman, in collaboration with the OOC, represented by the Oman Women’s Sports and Gender Equality Committee, organised a round table on “Women and Sports”. The purpose of the event is to enhance the role of women in sports through local, regional, and international efforts, sharing experiences to achieve a more inclusive and balanced future in sports. It was placed under the patronage of Sayyidah Sana bint Hamad Al-Busaidi, Chairwoman of Oman Women’s Sports and Gender Equality Committee, and in the presence of Véronique Aulagnon, French Ambassador. Six prominent female speakers shared inspiring examples of how women can be empowered through sport, presenting their success stories and insights on enhancing women’s participation in various sports activities and achieving a balance between their sports, professional, and personal life. 12 June 2024 - A Sports Management Course (Level 1) has been organised by the OOC, represented by the Oman Olympic Academy in collaboration with Olympic Solidarity. The course, held at the OOC headquarters, aims to introduce participants to Olympic history and events, and understand Olympic values and issues and their importance and role in the sports community. It also focuses on teaching management skills, problem-solving, leadership principles, decision-making and time management. More details here. In addition, a specialised symposium entitled “Designing Training Plans” brought together 26 coaches from federations, committees, sports clubs and the military sports sector. The symposium was part of the National Coach Certification Programme to develop and enhance the capabilities of sports coaches. Full info here. Mayar Al-Badri, a national coach with the Oman Handball Association, has completed the international coaching course organised by the Hungarian University of Sports Science in collaboration with Olympic Solidarity in Budapest (Hungary). 27 May 2024 - The OOC, represented by the Oman Sports Medicine Committee, organised a first aid and resuscitation course at the headquarters of Oman Olympic Academy from 20 to 22 May. The course provided participants with the knowledge and skills necessary to deal with sports injuries and emergency situations, including practical and theoretical exercises. There was also a distribution of cardiopulmonary resuscitation devices (AED) to sports federations and a number of sports committees as an initiative of the Oman Sports Medicine Committee to enhance their capabilities when dealing with emergency cases and providing immediate first aid at training and match venues to ensure the safety of athletes. During its meeting held on 19 May, the OOC Executive Office discussed several important topics, notably the review of the OOC’s proposal to establish Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) sports federations as the optimal framework for addressing the organisational and technical challenges of sports competitions in the GCC. 13 May 2024 - Trainers in Olympic Values Education” programme has been organised by the OOC, represented by the Oman Olympic Academy and in collaboration with Olympic Solidarity. This programme aims to support the Olympic Movement across various segments of Omani society, including athletes, coaches, students and teachers, by enhancing awareness of Olympic philosophy and its importance in shaping Omani Olympic champions. The programme is part of the project to promote Olympic culture and values and involves the use of educational materials and guides on Olympic values education issued by Olympic Solidarity. The project is divided into two programmes: Training of Trainers in Olympic Values Education and Olympic Culture and Values Initiatives. More info here.
02 April 2024 - The OOC General Assembly took place recently under the chairmanship of OOC President Sheikh Khalid bin Mohammed Al Zubair. The agenda included the annual report, with details about the administrative situation and the committee’s activities for 2023; an overview of the internal events and programmes approved by the Board of Directors to be held this year, such as Olympic Day; the approved programmes of the Oman Olympic Academy; and a range of sports and social events. 22 April 2024 - The Oman delegation for the first Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Youth Games recently arrived in the United Arab Emirates, where the Games will be held from 16 April to 2 May. The delegation included more than 200 people – athletes, technical and administrative staff, and a medical team. The delegation is headed by Khalid bin Mohammed al Zubair, OOC Chairman. Recently, the OOC held an introductory meeting headed by Taha al Koshari, OOC Secretary General, and delegation director Kadhim al Balushi, for reviewing Oman’s participation in the event. 11 March 2024 - The “Discovering, Nurturing and Developing Sports Talents” project from the Kingdom of Bahrain won first place at the end of the “GCC Women’s Sports Hackathon” event, organised recently in Muscat by the OOC, represented by the Oman Women’s Sports and Gender Equality Committee. 04 March 2024 - The OOC, represented by the Oman Women’s Sports and Gender Equality Committee, is organising the “GCC [Gulf Cooperation Council] Women’s Sports Hackathon” event on 2 and 3 March in Muscat. As part of the programme, four workshops will be organised on promoting community sports for women and sustainability, the role of technology in promoting GCC women’s sports, sustainable sports investment opportunities, and sustainable sports initiatives and programmes. 05 February 2024 - The OOC Board of Directors held its first meeting of 2024, led by OOC Chair Khalid bin Muhammad Al-Zubair. The Board approved the international participation programme for 2024, which includes the 7th Arab Women’s Club Games in the United Arab Emirates from 1 to 11 February, the Olympic Games Paris 2024 and the 6th Asian Indoor Games in Bangkok, Thailand, from 21 to 30 November. For the 7th Arab Women’s Club Games, the official delegation will be headed by Lujaina bint Mohsen Al Zaabiya, OOC Board member. 15 January 2024 - More than 400 citizens and residents participated in the “Physical Activity Day” activities organised by the OOC, represented by the Oman Sports and Active Society Committee in cooperation with the Department of Culture, Sports and Youth in Musandam. The event aimed to promote health and physical fitness by encouraging participants to practise physical activity and adopt a healthy lifestyle, and by creating an opportunity for interaction between people of different ages through sports and activities. More info here. A rehabilitation and recovery workshop related to musculoskeletal tissue was also organised by the OOC represented by Oman Sports Medicine and Anti-Doping Committee. 04 december 2023 - Represented by the Oman Olympic Academy (OOA), the OOC organised its first specialised symposium, entitled “Designing Training Plans – Periodisation”, at Sultan Qaboos University and the OOA, as part of the National Coach Certification Programme (NCCP) to develop and enhance the capabilities of sports coaches in Oman. The NCCP enables coaches to participate in an educational programme that provides them with a valuable opportunity to gain knowledge and experience and develop their skills, and will have a positive impact in enhancing the performance of athletes in Oman and raising their technical levels. The symposium was presented by Shihab Al-Din bin Ahmed Al-Riyami, Director of the National Coach Certification Programme. 13 november 2023 - Coach Nidal Al Mughiri from the Oman Basketball Federation participated in the international enrichment programme for coaches and technicians organised by the University of Delaware in cooperation with the United States Olympic and Paralympic Committee (USOPC), with support from Olympic Solidarity. Held from June to November, the programme aimed to provide coaches with the opportunity to enrich their skills, increase their competencies in the field of basketball training, and introduce them to the university game environment in the United States. 30 october 2023 - Meeting in Muscat, the Executive Office of Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) NOC Secretaries-General agreed on the United Arab Emirates hosting the first edition of the Youth Gulf Sports Games in Dubai city. Furthermore, the Executive Committee approved the proposals raised by the Advisory Committee for Sports of the Women’s Committee. More info here. Proposing events to be included in the Gulf Sports Games, supporting, enhancing and raising the standards of women’s teams participating in regional and international tournaments, and spreading awareness and the culture of sports and physical activity among women in the Gulf countries were among the proposals made by the GCC Women’s Committee during its meeting. 16 October 2023 - The OOC Board of Directors held its 3rd meeting of 2023 on October 10th, chaired by OOC Chairman Khalid bin Mohammed Al-Zubair. On the agenda were the participation and achievements of Oman athletes at the 19th Asian Games, the 2024 plan and budget, and the upcoming meetings of heads of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) NOCs, due to be hosted by the OOC from 14 to 17 October. 10 October 2023 - The Oman Olympic Academy has launched a national programme for coaches in the country. Organised by the OOC from 24 to 28 September, the first level of the National Coach Certification Programme (NCCP) is intended to develop and enhance the capabilities of sports coaches. This programme provides the opportunity for coaches to participate in an educational programme that gives them a valuable opportunity to gain knowledge and experience and develop their skills and will have a positive impact in enhancing the performance of athletes in Oman and raising their technical level. 27 September 2023 - The 16th semester of the Advanced Sports Management Diploma Programme started recently. Organised by the OOC, represented by the Oman Olympic Academy, and held in cooperation with Olympic Solidarity, this semester is focused on the organisation of major sports events. Among the lecturers was Diamil Faye, senior advisor to the Saudi Olympic and Paralympic Committee. Various themes will be discussed during this semester such as evaluating sporting events and their suitability for organisation, identifying the main stages of organising such events from initial planning to implementation, setting the appropriate legal and practical framework, and identifying and managing the necessary human resources. 12 September 2023 - A workshop was recently held at the Oman Olympic Academy to review and evaluate the projects of women sports leaders who participated in the “Step Forward” programme. The programme is one of the most important organised by the OOC’s Women’s Sports and Gender Equality Committee this year. It aims to develop female leaders in the sports and administrative fields, and provides the opportunity for participants to develop their administrative and leadership skills, enhances teamwork and personal development, and contributes to enhancing the status of women in the sports field. The programme included holding a number of specialised workshops and practical training sessions that have been held since last May. Full detailed info here.
24 july 2023 - The 5th semester of the Advanced Sports Management Diploma Programme concluded recently. Organised by the OOC, represented by the Oman Olympic Academy, the programme was held in cooperation with Olympic Solidarity. Various themes were discussed during this semester, such as the management of effective communication areas, ways to improve the quality of services for institutions, marketing from a strategic perspective, and the sponsorship programme for sports institutions. The course’s participants work in the sports and Olympic administrative fields in general. Full details here.
