30 October 2024 - The achievements of Team Hong Kong, China, at the Olympic Games Paris 2024 were commemorated during a ceremony at the Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing Limited (HKEX) Connect Hall. Alongside official guests such as Timothy Tsun Ting Fok, SF&OC President and IOC Honorary Member, and Carlson Tong, Chairman of HKEX, Paris 2024 Olympians Tang Chun Man (badminton), Tse Ying Suet (badminton), Lee Ho Ching (table tennis) and Wong Chun Ting (table tennis) struck the "gong" at the market closing ceremony. The gong striking session was then followed by a cheque presentation ceremony, where Fok represented the SF&OC Sports Legacy to receive a donation of HKD 1 million from the HKEX Foundation. The Sports Legacy Scheme, run by the Hong Kong Athletes Career and Education Department of the SF&OC, aims to provide opportunities for students, retired athletes and athletes who are planning to retire to pursue their passion for sport. In his 2024 Policy Address, the Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region put forward a number of initiatives to strengthen support for sports development in Hong Kong. The SF&OC welcomed these initiatives and will play an active role in facilitating their implementation. The Policy Address proposed reforming the governance of national sports associations. It also suggested enhancing coach training and exploring the feasibility of introducing a standardised accreditation system for coaches. More details here.
20 September 2024 - Organised by the SF&OC, the 2024 Olympism Camp brought together a total of 90 secondary school students and athletes from Hong Kong, Shenzhen and Macao. Inaugurated in 2013, the camp aims to enhance young people’s understanding of Olympism, encouraging them to practise these values in their daily lives, thereby having a positive impact on society. The three-day programme, partially funded by Olympic Solidarity, included sports experience sessions, team-building exercises and a seminar about the National Games. Detailed info here.
Thirty-one secondary school pupils who participated in the "Youth Tianjin Exchange Programme" recently shared their experiences during a visit to Tianjin. Held in July, the programme was co-organised by the SF&OC and the Federation of District Sports Associations of Hong Kong and funded by the Youth Development Commission. In Tianjin, the young participants visited a number of sporting facilities and took part in a variety of sports sessions. More details here.
15 July 2024 - In view of the upcoming Olympic Games Paris 2024, on 9 July the SF&OC organised a flag presentation ceremony for the delegation at the Central Government Offices. Among the many personalities present was Chan Kwok Ki, Acting Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Special Administration Region (HKSAR), who presented the flag to Timothy Tsun Ting Fok, SF&OC President and IOC Honorary Member. To enhance the promotion of Paris 2024, the SF&OC has set up a number of Olympic-themed installations at Tamar Park in Admiralty, providing members of the public with a "checkpoint" to visit and cheer for the athletes until 11 August. 25 June 2024 - The SF&OC organised the "2024 Olympic Day" event in the West Kowloon Cultural District. With the Olympic Games Paris 2024 set to open next month, the public are being asked to support and cheer on Hong Kong athletes. The event, the theme of which was “Run with Hong Kong Athletes”, featured a 5km and 3km individual run, and a 2km family fun run, and brought together more than 4,000 participants. A number of free games booths were set up for the public. Athletes also attended the event and shared their sporting experiences and how they enjoyed the fun of sport, encouraging the public to develop a healthy lifestyle by doing physical exercise. 05 February 2024 - The SF&OC’s Hong Kong Olympic Fan Club has launched the "Passing on the Torch" programme, which leverages the perseverance of athletes and the Olympic spirit to encourage young people to strive for self-improvement when facing adversity. A kick-off ceremony was held on 27 January, in the presence of Clarence Leung, Under-Secretary for Home and Youth Affairs; Timothy Tsun Ting Fok, SF&OC President and IOC Honorary Member; and three ambassadors of the programme, fencers Siu Lun Cheung and Vivian Kong, and karateka Chun Ho Lee. The athletes also shared their personal life experience to encourage young people to stay positive in the face of challenges. Subsidised by the "Funding Scheme for Youth Positive Thinking Activities" launched by the HKSAR Government, the "Passing on the Torch " programme will offer a variety of sports-themed activities from now until June 2025 for participants aged between 12 and 25. 15 January 2024 - In view of the upcoming Winter Youth Olympic Games Gangwon 2024, the SF&OC organised the flag presentation ceremony for the delegation at the Olympic House on 8 January. Three young athletes aged 16-17 will compete in Alpine skiing and short track speed skating. More details here.
27 September 2023 - The SF&OC and the Caritas Institute of Higher Education (CIHE), Caritas Bianchi College of Careers (CBCC), have signed an MoU on the Hong Kong Athletes’ Education Programme to support athletes in academic and sports development. This partnership will provide all-round learning opportunities to the members of Hong Kong Athletes Career and Education Department (HKACED) through the SF&OC by offering flexible admission arrangements and scholarships. The MoU was signed by Timothy Tsun Ting Fok, SF&OC President, and Kim Mak, CIHE & CBCC President. More info here. In addition, a delegation of around 660 athletes participate in the 19th Asian Games in Hangzhou. The total delegation size is around 940 people, the biggest in history. More info here.
29 July 2023 - With the Ulaanbaatar 2023 East Asian Youth Games and the Hangzhou 19th Asian Games fast approaching, the SF&OC recently organised the Flag Presentation Ceremony for the Hong Kong, China delegations. Among the many personalities present at the ceremony was SF&OC President and IOC Honorary Member Timothy Tsun Ting Fok. For the 19th Asian Games (23 September to 8 October), the delegation will consist of 930 people, the biggest in the NOC’s history. At the Ulaanbaatar 2023 East Asian Youth Games (16 to 23 August), more than 200 young athletes aged 15 to 18 will take part. More info here.
27 June 2023 - 2023 Olympic Day brought together some 3,000 participants on 18 June in the West Kowloon Cultural District of Hong Kong. The SF&OC organised the event on the theme of “Run with Hong Kong Athletes”. The “Hangzhou Asian Games Fun Run” was held to encourage public support for the athletes participating in the forthcoming Hangzhou Asian Games in September. A Sports Carnival was also organised to invite families and the public to learn more about different sports while also having fun. Full details here.
18 March 2022 - The Sports Federation & Olympic Committee of Hong Kong, China (SF&OC) has announced the names of the five recipients of the Paris 2024 Olympic Scholarships for Athletes (see photo). The scholarships will help the recipients prepare and potentially qualify for the Olympic Games Paris 2024. Each of them will receive a 32-month subsidy of USD 1,500 per month from January 2022 to August 2024 to support their training and qualification costs. More details here.
03 December 2021 - The Sports Federation & Olympic Committee of Hong Kong, China (SF&OC) installed six commemorative plaques for the Hong Kong medallists at the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020, in recognition of their effort and outstanding performances. The plaques were jointly unveiled during a ceremony held on 21 November at Olympic House, by Timothy Fok, President of the SF&OC, Lee Wai Sze, bronze medallist in the women's sprint, and Pui Kwan Kay, Chef de Mission for Tokyo. 01 February 2021 - The Sports Federation & Olympic Committee of Hong Kong, China (SF&OC) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with The Education University of Hong Kong (EdUHK) on 8 January to introduce a special admission scheme for retired athletes and those planning to retire. As the first local university to establish such a collaboration with the SF&OC, the EdUHK hopes this latest partnership will benefit more local athletes by fostering the development of dual career pathways. The MoU was signed by SF&OC President Timothy Tsun Ting Fok (r. in photo) and EdUHK President Stephen Y. L. Cheung (l.). Full info here. 28 june 2019 - The 2019 Olympic Day brought together over 3,000 participants at the Hong Kong Sports Institute on 23 June. A total of 51 corporate teams, National Sports Associations, government departments and sponsors took part in the 3km Fun Run. The NOC of Hong Kong, China also organised a Family Run to encourage both parents and children to participate in sports together. More details here. 08 April 2019 - The NOC of Hong Kong, China has unveiled a set of commemorative plaques for sports personalities who have been included in the 2018 roll of honour. A total of 19 sports stars were recognised for their remarkable contribution to the sports community in Hong Kong at a ceremony officiated by Timothy Tsun Ting Fok (photo), NOC President and IOC Honorary Member. 25 February 2019 - The 2019 Olympism camp organised by the NOC of Hong Kong, China, and the Hong Kong Sports Institute (HKSI) was held from 11 to 13 February. The camp’s goal is to allow the young participants to take part in interactive games, team activities and seminars to learn about the importance of Olympism and team spirit. Following last year’s successful experience of mixing elite HKSI athletes and student athletes who have participated in the Olympism Education Programme, there were a total of 61 participants in this year’s edition. 15 January 2019 - The annual general meeting of the NOC of Hong Kong, China saw the election of its officers on 18 December. IOC Honorary Member Timothy Tsun Ting Fok was re-elected as President. The full election results are here.
20 December 2018 - The 2018 IOC “Olympism in Action” Trophy was presented to David Akers-Jones (right in photo), Honorary Advisor to the Hong Kong, China Rowing Association (HKCRA), in recognition of his excellent contribution in fostering Hong Kong’s social and sports development. Timothy Tsun Ting Fok (left in photo), IOC Honorary Member and President of the Sports Federation and Olympic Committee of Hong Kong, China, presented him with the IOC Trophy during the Olympic family Christmas gathering, which brought together over 200 sports celebrities and sports administrators. Akers-Jones has served in the HKCRA as Honorary Advisor for over 30 years. As a prominent leader in various sports disciplines, he has been actively involved in providing venues for people in Hong Kong to participate in sport and physical activities to improve their health. 26 June 2018 - In recognition of the outstanding contributions of sports personalities such as leaders, athletes, coaches and officials in Hong Kong, the Sports Federation & Olympic Committee of Hong Kong, China (SF&OC) decided to establish a Hall of Fame this year in the Olympic House. On 22 June, Timothy Tsun Ting Fok, SF&OC President and IOC Honorary Member, unveiled the Hall of Fame and announced the two inaugural inductees: Arnaldo de Oliveira Sales and Henry Fok Ying Tung. The former was the NOC President from 1967 to 1998 and the first Chairman of the former Urban Council. The latter was the President of the Hong Kong Football Association from 1970 to 1997 and an Executive Committee member of the International Association Football Federation (FIFA) from 1974 to 1996.
