04 October 2022 - On 16 September in Havana, the presidents of the Cuban and Portuguese NOCs, Roberto Leon Richards Aguiar and José Manuel Constantino, signed a new cooperation agreement. Under the terms of the agreement, the two NOCs will work together on areas such as coach training and development, doping control, IT applied to sport, university exchanges and advice on organising multisport competitions. During his visit to Cuba, the Portuguese NOC President also learned about the functioning of the Cuban NOC and visited several sports facilities and centres.
16 march 2020 - The Cuban NOC welcomed the President of the Haitian NOC, Hans Larsen, and its Secretary General, Alain Jean-Pierre, on a visit to Cuba to strengthen the links between the two NOCs. Thus, a collaboration agreement aimed at increasing exchanges, developing joint programmes and cooperation in sports, was signed by the Presidents of the Cuban and Haitian NOCs, Roberto León Richards (left in photo) and Hans Larsen (right), respectively. Some of the areas identified in this agreement include the training of coaches and specialists, sports administration and management, the fight against doping, information, the recruitment of coaches and athletes. Members of the Cuban NOC’s executive committee and Cuban sports legends, volleyball players Regla Torres and Yumilka Ruíz and athlete Yipsi Moreno, attended the signing ceremony.
21 february 2020 - The President of the Cuban NOC, Robertin León Richard, received his counterpart from the Algerian NOC, Mustapha Berraf, who is also the President of the Association of National Olympic Committees of Africa (ANOCA) and an IOC Member. The two presidents signed a cooperation agreement to strengthen ties between their respective NOCs at the Cuban NOC headquarters (see photo), with the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Algeria to Cuba, Kamel Boughaba, among those in attendance. During his trip to Cuba, Berraf visited, among other things, the Giraldo Córdova Cardín High-Level Athlete Training School, the national boxing and volleyball schools, the Havana anti-doping laboratory and the offices of the Cubadeportes company. He was also received by the President of the National Institute of Sports, Physical Education and Recreation (INDER), Osvaldo Vento Montiller, the Deputy Prime Minister of Cuba, Roberto Morales Ojeda, and the Minister for Foreign Trade and Foreign Investment, Rodrigo Malmierca. Berraf was accompanied during his trip by João Manuel Da Costa Alegre Afonso, the First Vice-President of ANOCA and President of the NOC of Sao Tome and Principe; Kamal Lahlou, an ANOCA Executive Committee member and President of the Moroccan NOC; and Mustapha Lemouchi, an Algerian NOC member.
14 february 2020 - The Cuban NOC held its general assembly on 29 January. The meeting was chaired by NOC President Roberto Leon Richards, and those attending included the President of the National Institute of Sport, Physical Education and Leisure (INDER), Osvaldo Vento Montiller. The main agenda items were the preparations for the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020 and the joint IOC and PanAm Sports programmes. The Cuban NOC has also signed a cooperation agreement with the NOC of Belize, which it has been supporting with technical assistance since 2004.
08 july 2019 - A number of Olympic medallists, including three-time Olympic volleyball champions Regla Torres and Marlenis Costa, took part in the Olympic Day Run in Havana, together with hundreds of other participants of all ages. The run was started by Cuban NOC President Roberto León Richards and his counterpart from the National Institute of Sport, Physical Education and Recreation (INDER), Osvaldo Vento Montiller.
28 june 2019 - The athletes’ commission of the Cuban NOC met on 1 June at the NOC headquarters. On the agenda of the meeting, which was chaired by commission chair Mijain López Núñez and attended by prominent Cuban athletes and NOC President Roberto Leo Richards, were relations with the athletes’ commissions of INDER, the IOC, PASO and other NOCs, Olympic Scholarships for Athletes Tokyo 2020 and the International Athletes’ Forum.
26 March 2019 - The NOC of Cuba’s Women and Sport Commission met on 13 March, in the presence of NOC President Roberto León Richards and Commission Chair María Caridad Colón. Among the topics discussed during the meeting were the development of an action plan, empowering female athletes so that they are capable of exercising any role at the end of their sports careers, and identifying leaders within teams. In addition, at the end of February, the NOC organised its first ordinary general assembly for the period 2018-20, which was attended by representatives from the National Institute of Sports, Physical Education and Recreation (INDER), members of the NOC’s Executive Board, national federation representatives and association presidents. The preparations for the Lima 2019 Pan-American and Parapan American Games, and the work of the various commissions, including the NOC’s Athletes’ Commission, were on the agenda.
