Dear Participants,

As the Director of the 2023 IOC Course on Cardiovascular Evaluation of Olympic Athletes, I am

very pleased to welcome you to Medellín, Colombia.

This is the 12th edition of the Course, and the excellent feedback from previous participants has inspired us to provide even more added value to the broad audience we have, including team physicians, sports medicine specialists and consulting cardiologists.

As for previous editions, this Course is aimed at providing you with the most up-to-date academic and practical information on cardiovascular evaluation of athletes with the aim of preventing sudden cardiac death on the field of play, and sharing methods for assessing such a risk in athletes’ lives.

This year, the scientific programme is even more appealing, with an interactive approach based on the presentation and guided discussion of a variety of clinical cases, which will be instrumental to teach the peculiarities of electrocardiographic changes and imaging testing (including cardiac magnetic resonance) in athletes.

Aside from our scientific discussions, we will also have the opportunity to network, thanks to a social programme which – I am sure – will receive your full approval.
