Biography

A Beijing 2008 Olympian and former international badminton player, Kaveh Mehrabi competed internationally from 1997 to 2012. Mehrabi joined the IOC Sports Department in December 2014 to lead the Unit in charge of relations and engagement with athletes and athlete-related programmes.

Following the creation of the IOC Athletes’ Department in 2021 as part of the implementation of Olympic Agenda 2020+5, he was appointed as the Director of the Department.

Prior to joining the IOC, he worked for the Organising Committee for the first European Games, held in Baku in 2015, and for Peace and Sport and Special Olympics.

With experience in athlete representation for several years, Mehrabi was first elected to the Badminton World Federation Athletes’ Commission in 2008, and subsequently elected as Chair of the Commission in 2010. He was also a member of the WADA Athlete Committee for three years, from 2014 until the end of 2016.

He studied Sports Science and Physical Education at Azad University in Tehran, and holds a Certificate of Advanced Studies in Leadership from the University of Lausanne (HEC).
