Olympian Artists at Tokyo 2020

The extensive Olympic Agora programme at Tokyo 2020 included a site-specific group exhibition of new works by five Olympians and one Paralympian.

Entitled “Noren Curtains”, the exhibition was a tribute to Japanese noren, the traditional curtain-like fabric typically hung in shops. Each artist individually designed a number of such “curtains” with their own photography, painting, graffiti or graphic design, drawing inspiration from Tokyo and Japan and the Olympic spirit and values.

The Noren Curtains exhibition was displayed in the busy Mitsukoshi-mae underground metro station in the heart of Tokyo. It was open and accessible to all, providing an Olympic cultural experience for the residents of the host city and digital audiences worldwide.
