Olympian Artists at PyeongChang 2018

Over the course of 17 days, four Olympian artists took inspiration from the ideals of Pierre de Coubertin, founder of the modern Olympic Games, and shared their artistic expression through two projects. The first was a series of short films d’auteur that were shot on location with Olympian Alexi Pappas, blending fiction and reality. The films were conceived and produced by Pappas, who is a runner, writer and filmmaker, along with writer and filmmaker Jeremy Teicher.

The second project was an art workshop at the Olympic Village, led by the Olympian Roald Bradstock. It was conducted with athletes participating in the Games – together, they collectively completed 15 paintings inspired by the Winter Games, producing a painting per day!

In an initiative led by The Olympic Museum, three Olympian Artists conducted a participatory workshop for athletes at the Olympic Village during the Olympic Winter Games PyeongChang 2018. Some 111 athletes from all around the world participated. Working together, they created 15 new paintings over the course of the Games.

Through teamwork, each canvas was finished at a rate of one per day, with the paintings representing the various winter sports competitions being held at the Games. When arranged together, the individual paintings revealed the Olympic rings.
