New insights
In this section, you can discover a number of new resources which have been published recently by the IOC and the IPC and are available on Olympic Games Knowledge (OGK) and VGL (Visual Games Learning).
New video clip “Oneness: working as one team to get to the starting line for Tokyo 2020”
This new 30-minute video clip sums up how all Tokyo 2020 FAs and delivery partners worked together to make these Olympic Games a success despite being held under exceptional circumstances amidst the global COVID-19 pandemic. In particular, it highlights, explains and showcases the operational readiness activities, implemented physically and virtually in the run-up to the Games.
Structured interviews
As highlighted in the previous IKL Newsletter edition, a lot of work was accomplished around structured interviews in 2022. However, some of the videos from the third round of structured interviews with Paris 2024 and the second round with Milano Cortina 2026 could not be uploaded to VGL due to the migration of existing content from VGL to Imagen. This issue will be fixed shortly with the launch of the new Games Learning Platform. Enjoy this new experience!
Olympic Host Contract – Operational Requirements – 2022
This Olympic Host Contract – Operational Requirements (OHC – ORs) document was updated last year and shared with existing OCOGs, future hosts and the Games Management team in November. It forms an integral part of the OHC for each edition of the Olympic and Paralympic Games, is a public document, and is available here on olympics.com.
The OHC – ORs document lists key requirements applicable to the planning, organising, financing and staging of the Games, as they are known by the parties at the time of publication. However, optimisation of the Games, ensuring sustainable delivery and maximising the impact and legacy opportunities is an ongoing effort and requires the IOC and IPC to periodically review and update the OHC – ORs. The application of any update to the OHC – ORs issued after a host election will be agreed between the IOC and the parties concerned, in accordance with the change management mechanism defined in the OHC – Principles.
Accreditation at the Olympic Games – Detailed Specifications
The updated version of the Accreditation at the Olympic Games – Detailed Specifications (English and French versions) (ACR Annex 1 of the OHC – Operational Requirements) has now been published on OGK. As usual, the main changes from the previous versions are listed in a dedicated section.
Paralympic Symbol Guidelines
The Paralympic Symbol Guidelines released in August 2022 by the IPC were recently added to OGK. This document is referred to as PRT Annex 2 of the OHC – Operational Requirements.
Community Engagement and the Olympic Torch Relay
The IOC recently published new learning material looking into “Community Engagement and the Olympic Torch Relay” by telling the success story of London 2012. The Olympic Torch Relay (OTR) is not only a premium asset of the Olympic Movement, but represents the climax of public engagement strategies for each edition of the Olympic Games. It has been demonstrated at many Games that the arrival of the Olympic flame and a well-run relay provide the trigger for public enthusiasm and community activity around the forthcoming Games and the lasting impacts that follow.

Games Delivery Playbook
The Games Delivery Playbook, designed in collaboration with the Games Delivery Office and Deloitte, serves as a fundamental and easy-to-consume guide to delivering the Games. Available on the new Games Learning Platform, it outlines the “what”, “who” and “how” of Olympic and Paralympic Games delivery, providing an introduction for all those involved – whatever your role. The Playbook also explains the support provided by the IOC.
Games terminology – update
A major effort has been undertaken to review all the terms in the Games terminology database, which aims to facilitate a more consistent use of “Games language” and improve communication and mutual understanding between the many stakeholders involved in the organisation of the Games.
This database is a living document and constantly evolving. The content will continue to be updated in the coming weeks, integrating recommendations from the IOC’s English Translation team in order to harmonise the content. The translation of the terms into French is a work in progress, and the French terms will be added to the database soon.
Key changes such as Rights-Holding Broadcaster (RHB) now being referred to as Media Rights-Holder (MRH) can be found in a file available on the homepage.
Do not hesitate to refer to the database regularly and to recommend it to your colleagues and stakeholders in order to promote the use of consistent language.
Should you need any further information on any of the items above, please do not hesitate to contact ikl@olympic.org.
