Worldwide Olympic Partner Samsung announces team roster and “Open always wins” theme for Paris 2024
Worldwide Olympic Partner Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd has added to the excitement surrounding the upcoming Olympic and Paralympic Games Paris 2024 by unveiling its official roster of athletes. It has also revealed the official theme for Paris 2024, “Open always wins”, which embodies Samsung's belief in the power of an open mind to turn every new experience into a meaningful accomplishment, unlocking fresh perspectives and limitless possibilities.
This inspiring message is set to take centre stage in Samsung's comprehensive Paris 2024 programme, driving various activations in the lead-up to and during the Games.
Team Samsung Galaxy, composed of accomplished athletes, will play a pivotal role as the primary advocates for “Open always wins”. By sharing their personal journeys, these athlete ambassadors will illustrate how Samsung's cutting-edge technologies are instrumental in helping athletes and fans alike embrace new opportunities. The team's narratives will underline the theme's broader reach, emphasising that an open mindset can lead to triumphs not just in sport but also in many aspects of life.
For Paris 2024, the Samsung team is made up of over 25 Olympians and Paralympians — including British skateboarder Sky Brown, Spanish badminton champion Carolina Marin, French skateboarding hero Aurélien Giraud, American B-girl Grace “Sunny” Choi, German Para sprinter Johannes Floors, and South Korean football icon Son Heung-min — with more to be named. It features several athletes from some of the Games’ newest sports — skateboarding, surfing, and breaking — which, like Samsung, share core values of open-mindedness and self-expression.
The team also includes 15-year-old skateboarder Rayssa Leal, who became the youngest Brazilian ever to compete in the Olympic Games when she won silver at Tokyo 2020; Kim Ye-ri, the “limitless” South Korean B-girl who overcame a hearing impairment to rise to the top of her sport; Jagger Eaton (USA), who champions skateboarding’s culture of open-mindedness; surfers Johanne Defay (France), John John Florence (USA) and Jack Robinson (Australia), who are not only fierce competitors on the waves but also fierce ocean and climate advocates; and Paralympians Madison de Rozario (Australia) and Ugo Didier (France), who use their platforms to drive accessibility and inclusivity in sport and society.
I am super happy to be part of Team Samsung Galaxy. ‘Open always wins’ reminds me of the open-mindedness you can acquire through competition – sometimes we win, sometimes we lose, which challenges many aspects of ourselves. We ponder a lot on how we can evolve, and I think that's a form of open-mindedness.
“Samsung has championed the Olympic spirit — and has been enabling meaningful connection — since its very first Olympic Games in 1988,” said Stephanie Choi, Executive Vice-President and Head of Marketing of Mobile eXperience Business at Samsung Electronics. “For Paris 2024, Samsung’s latest innovation and technology will support the staging of the Games, and will help deliver on their promise to be the most open Games ever. The brand’s ‘Open always wins’ message reflects this alignment of values, and will be featured throughout Samsung’s Paris 2024 programming.”
The launch of the Paris 2024 theme marks a significant step for Samsung as a Worldwide Olympic Partner in its commitment to enhancing the Olympic and Paralympic experience. As “Open always wins” takes root as the guiding principle for Samsung's involvement in the Games, the global audience can anticipate a celebration of openness, inclusivity and the infinite potential that reveals itself when minds are receptive to new horizons.
