In July, 20 team members from Milano Cortina 2026, with no previous experience in Games or major sports events, took the opportunity to observe live operations at the FIE Fencing World Championships held in Milan. Around 1,050 athletes and a total of 210 volunteers participated in this major sports event.

The Milano Cortina 2026 team members were split into two groups who, over two days, were guided by experienced OCOG staff members across the Allianz MiCo venue, supported by the local organisers. The aim was to get a general understanding of the venue spaces and operations, as well as the accreditation zones, and learn as much as possible from this experience. These live observations, combined with the exchanges with the Championships’ workforce, enabled the OCOG team members to improve their knowledge.

Secondment opportunities and education programme

In addition, a small number of OCOG employees took on a secondment role to support the organisers of the FIE Fencing World Championships with transport services throughout the event delivery.

Finally, a group of high school students from Milan, who are participating in a Milano Cortina 2026 Education Programme project, supported the organisation of the Fencing World Championships. This project aims to pass on a legacy to the next generation, going well beyond 2026 (Percorsi per le Competenze Trasversali e l’Orientamento).
