India are on course to break their medal tally record at the Asian Games after an action-packed day 10 at Hangzhou. 

Athletics continued to deliver medals for India at the Asian Games 2023. Annu Rani and Parul Chaudhary won the nation’s first-ever gold medals in women’s javelin throw and women’s 5000m, respectively, at the continental meet.

Tejaswin Shankar shattered the national record to win the men’s decathlon silver for his first Asian Games medal. 

Mohammed Afsal, meanwhile, bagged the men’s 800m silver. Praveen Chitharavel, a men’s triple jump national record holder, settled for bronze at Hangzhou while Vithya Ramraj won the women's 400m hurdles bronze.

The Indian men's canoe double 1000m team, featuring Arjun Singh and Sunil Singh Salam also won the bronze medal. It was India’s second canoe medal, a first in 29 years!

The Tokyo 2020 bronze medallist Lovlina Borgohain punched her way to the women's 75kg gold medal bout at the Asian Games 2023 while also securing an Olympic quota for India in the category. Boxers Preeti Pawar and Narender Berwal ended their campaigns with bronze today.

The Indian men’s cricket team stormed into the semi-finals after a 23-run win against Nepal on their Asian Games debut. Yashasvi Jaiswal smashed his first T20I ton, becoming the youngest T20I century-maker from India.

The women’s kabaddi team returned to winning ways against the Republic of Korea while the men’s team beat neighbours Bangladesh in their opener.

Saurav Ghosal along with mixed doubles pairs Dipika Pallikal-Harinder Pal Singh Sandhu and Anahat Singh-Abhay Singh assured squash medals. Meanwhile, PV Sindhu and HS Prannoy made a winning start to their badminton singles campaigns.

Two gold, two silver and five bronze medals today took India only one short of their record - 70 at the 2018 Asian Games. With squash and boxing medals assured, India are poised to create a new record in Hangzhou.

Athletics: Annu Rani clinches women's javelin throw gold

India's Annu Rani threw the spear a season best 62.92m long to win the women's javelin throw gold medal at the Asian Games 2023. It is her second Asian Games medal, the first was a bronze at the 2014 Asian Games, where she threw 59.53m. 

The 31-year-old Annu Rani is also the women's javelin throw national record holder. She threw her spear 63.82m at the Indian Open Javelin Throw Competition in 2022.

Sri Lanka's Dilhani Lekamge threw a personal best of 61.57m to win the silver at Hangzhou. Lyu Huihui settled for bronze with a best throw of 61.29m.

Bridge: Indian men's team lead against China after three rounds

The Indian men's bridge team scored 102.6 points in 48 boards against China, who scored 75, to finish on the ascendancy after three rounds in the semi-final at the Asian Games 2023.

  • Session 1: China 22-62 India
  • Session 2: India 17-31 China
  • Session 3: China 22-22 India

The three remaining semi-final rounds in men's bridge will be played tomorrow, starting at 6:30 AM IST.

Athletics: Tejaswin Shankar wins decathlon silver

Tejaswin Shankar clocked 4:48.32 and scored 629 points in the final men's decathlon event, a 1500m race. However, Tejaswin failed to pip China's Sun Qihao for the Asian Games 2023 title, finishing 150 points behind to win the silver medal. 

The Indian athlete Tejaswin Shankar won the high jump, long jump and 400m race in the men's decathlon at Hangzhou. With a combined score of 7666, he also beat the previous Indian men's decathlon national record by eight points.

India's Praveen Chitharavel made a best jump of 16.68m, in his first attempt, to win the men's triple jump bronze medal on his Asian Games debut. Meanwhile, Abdulla Aboobacker jumped a best of 16.62m, in his second attempt, to rank fourth.

The 22-year-old Praveen Chitharavel had finished fifth and sixth in his two Diamond League appearances this season.

Athletics: Parul Chaudhary wins 5000m gold, Mohammed Afsal claims 800m silver

Indian athlete Parul Chaudhary clocked 15:14.75 in the women's 5000m final, taking home a dramatic gold medal at the Asian Games 2023. The 28-year-old Parul, who won women's 5000m silver at the Asian Championships earlier this year, overtook Japan's Ririka Hironaka on the final straight to upgrade to the top step of the podium. Ankita, on the other hand, finished fifth with a personal best time of 15:33.03.

It is Parul Chaudhary's second medal of the 19th Asian Games, following her women's 3000m steeplechase silver on Monday. Indian athletes have now clinched 14 gold medals at Hangzhou.

Mohammed Afsal Pulikkalakath, meanwhile, won the men's 800m silver medal with a time of 1:48.43 at the Asian Games 2023. India's Krishnan Kumar finished fifth with a time of 1:48.80.

The 27-year-old Mohammed Afsal had finished seventh in the Asian Championships earlier this year, where he clocked 1:48.77.  

In the women's high jump, the 16-year-old Pooja finished fifth with a best leap of 1.80m. Rubina Yadav jumped a best of 1.75m, ranking ninth at Hangzhou 2023.

Chess: Women's team clean sweep Mongolia, men's team beat draw vs IR Iran

Koneru Humpy, Vaishali Rameshbabu, Vantika Agrawal and Savitha Shri Baskar, all, won their games as India beat Mongolia 4.0-0.0 in the women's chess team round 5 match. The Indian team are now second in the standings, only one point behind China.

The Indian men's chess team, on the other hand, drew 2.0-2.0 against the table toppers Islamic Republic of Iran. Only Rameshbabu Praggnanandhaa won a game for India in round 5. They too are second in the men's team standings at the Asian Games 2023.

Boxing: Narender Berwal bags men's +92kg bronze

India's Narender Berwal lost 5:0 on points versus Kazakhstan's Kamshybek Kunkabayev in the men's +92kg semi-final. As a result, the 28-year-old Indian pugilist settled for the bronze medal, his second at the Asian Games.

Indian boxer Sachin Siwach lost 4:1 on points against China's Lyu Ping in the men's 57kg quarter-final at the Asian Games 2023. The 2021 youth world champion Sachin will return from Hangzhou with a medal or an Olympic quota.

In round 2 of the bout, an accidental head collision led to Lyu Ping getting injured, stopping the bout. However, it was not deemed a knockout and the Chinese boxer was named winner of the bout.

Two Indian boxers - Lovlina Borgohain and Parveen Hooda - have already assured medals while Preeti Pawar and Nikhat Zareen bagged bronze.

Soft tennis: Indian teams ousted in group stage

The Indian men's and women's soft tennis teams finished fourth and third, respectively, in the group stages at the Asian Games 2023. Both teams were knocked out as only the top two teams in each group, across categories, made the semi-finals.

India beat Cambodia 3-0, while they lost against Thailand, Chinese Taipei and the Republic of Korea in Group A of the men's soft tennis event. The Indian women's soft tennis team, meanwhile, beat Mongolia and Vietnam while losing to Japan and China.

Sport climbing: Speed campaign ends in pre-quarters

Indian climbers Anisha Verma and Shivpreet Pannu clocked 9.495 seconds and 9.956 seconds, respectively, in the women's speed qualification and finished in the top 16. However, Shivpreet Pannu lost in the round of 16 heat against Indonesia's Rajiah Sallasbillah while Anisha Verma went down to China's Niu Di in the same round.

Meanwhile, Aman Verma finished 16th with a time of 6.205 seconds, qualifying for the round of 16. But Aman Verma, too, lost in the pre-quarter-final heats against Indonesian climber Veddriq Leonardo.

Athletics: Vithya Ramraj settles for 400m hurdles bronze

Vithya Ramraj clocked 55.68 seconds in the women's 400m hurdles final to win the bronze medal at the Asian Games 2023. The 25-year-old Indian hurdler equalled Indian track and field legend PT Usha's 400m hurdles national record in the heats on Monday.

Bahrain's hurdler Adekoya Oluwakemi Mujidat shattered the Asian Games record, clocking 54.45 seconds, on her way to clinching the gold medal. Mo Jiadie from China won the silver medal with a season-best time of 55.01 seconds.

India's Yashas Palaksha and T Santosh Kumar, on the other hand, finished fifth and sixth, respectively, in the men's 400m hurdles final. Qatar's Abderrahman Alsaleck and Bassem Hemeida secured a gold-silver finish while China's Xie Zhiyu bagged bronze.

Meanwhile, Tejaswin Shankar finished fifth, with a 51.17m best throw, in the javelin throw event in the men's decathlon at Hangzhou 2023. The 24-year-old Indian athlete scored 606 points and stays second in the standings with only one event to go. The men's decathlon 1500m race will begin at 6:10 PM IST.

Squash: Saurav Ghosal, Anahat-Abhay make semis, assured medals

Indian squash ace Saurav Ghosal won 11-5, 12-10, 11-3 against Japan's Ryunosuke Tsukue in the men's singles quarter-finals, sealing a semi-final spot while also assuring his ninth Asian Games medal. The 37-year-old Saurav Ghosal will take the court against Hong Kong China's Lau Tsz Kwan or Leung Chi Hin Henry in the semi-final at 3:30 PM IST tomorrow.

Anahat Singh and Abhay Singh, India's mixed doubles pair, beat ninth seeds Yeonsoo Yang and Dongjun Lee of the Republic of Korea 11-4, 8-11, 11-1 in the quarter-final, assuring a semi-final spot and a medal at the Asian Games 2023. The duo have already won team medals on their Asian Games debut.

Anahat and Abhay will face Malaysia's Aifa Binti Azman and Mohammad Syafiq Kamal in the semi-final tomorrow at 10:30 AM IST.

Athletics: India aim to continue medal rush

Athletics, once again, will take centrestage for India in the evening session. Tejaswin Shankar, Abdulla Aboobacker, Parul Chaudhary, Vithya Ramraj and others will compete for medals today. Here's the schedule:

Badminton: Kidambi Srikanth through to pre-quarters

Indian men's singles badminton ace Kidambi Srikanth, ranked 21st in the world, won 21-16, 21-11 against world No. 122 Yunggyu Lee in the Asian Games 2023 round of 32. The 30-year-old Srikanth had also won in straight games in the round of 64.

Earlier today, HS Prannoy and PV Sindhu also won their respective men's singles matches while Treesa Jolly / Gayatri Gopichand and Tanisha Crasto / Ashwini Ponnappa also made the women's doubles round of 16. Ashmita Chaliha was the only Indian badminton player to get knocked out in the round of 32 today.

Squash: Dipika-Harinder win mixed quarters, assured medal

Dipika Pallikal and Harinder Pal Singh Sandhu won 2-1 against the Philippines' Jemyca Aribado and Robert Andrew Garcia in the mixed doubles quarter-finals and assured a medal at the Asian Games 2023.

While Dipika Pallikal is now a seven-time Asian Games medallist, Harinder Pal Singh Sandhu added a fifth to his tally. The Indian duo will feature in the semi-final versus Lee Ka Yi and Wong Chi Him tomorrow at 9:30 AM IST.

Indian squash player Tanvi Khanna, however, was defeated 11-5, 11-6, 14-12 by Japan's Satomi Watanabe in the women's singles quarter-final at the Asian Games 2023.

The 24-year-old Japanese player assured herself a medal at Hangzhou, adding to the team bronze at 2018 Jakarta. Tanvi Khanna, 27, failed to secure a singles medal after winning the team bronze earlier in this campaign.

Some men's kabaddi players may be rested for Thailand match

Two-time Asian Games kabaddi champion Ram Mehar Singh has been impressed by the men’s kabaddi showing in Hangzhou.

“The starting seven looked great and the players on the bench also played very well. The Indian team put up a balanced performance. They played with a clear mind and the team implemented a great strategy against Bangladesh."

The Indian men's kabaddi team play Thailand in the second Group A match tomorrow, starting at 6:00 AM IST. 

"Some players in the starting seven may be given a rest in the match against Thailand. We have a great side with a lot of star players," Ram Mehar Singh added.

Kabaddi: Indian women's team seal 33-point win vs Republic of Korea

The Indian women's kabaddi team won 56-23 against the Republic of Korea in the Group A match at the Asian Games 2023. Pooja Hathwala and Pushpa were the top raiders for India, scoring a super 10, each, while captain Ritu Negi was the star defender, inflicting five all-outs. The Korean raiders showed an inclination towards bonus points, rather than touch points, in their offensive strategy.

On Monday, India opened their women's kabaddi campaign with a 34-34 tie against Chinese Taipei. The two-time champions India will take the mat versus Thailand, the 2010 Asian Games runners up, in their final group match tomorrow at 1:30 PM IST.

Yashasvi Jaiswal leads India to men's cricket semis

Opening batter Yashasvi Jaiswal scored his first T20I century to headline India's 23-run quarter-final victory against Nepal on their Asian Games debut. While Yashasvi top-scored with the bat, bowlers Ravi Bishnoi and Avesh Khan took three wickets, each.

The Ruturaj Gaikwad-led Indian men's cricket team will play Bangladesh or Malaysia in the semi-final on Friday, October 6 at 6:30 AM IST.

Badminton: Treesa-Gayatri, Ashwini-Tanisha make pre-quarters

Treesa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand, the world No. 17 pair, won 21-14, 21-12 against Aminath Nabeeha Abdul Razzaq and Fathimath Nabaaha Abdul Razzaq, ranked 97th in the world, in the women's doubles round of 32 match at the Asian Games 2023. The Indian duo will face world No. 3 Republic of Korea pair Kim So Yeong and Kong Hee Yong in the pre-quarter-finals tomorrow.

Meanwhile, Ashwini Ponnappa and Tanisha Crasto got a round of 32 bye after Maldives' Maisa Fathuhulla Ismail and Aishath Afnaan Rasheed retired with the scores at 21-2, 12-2 in favour of the Indian pair. Ashwini and Tanisha will take on China's sixth-ranked pair Zheng Yu and Zhang Shu Xian or Mongolia's Kherlen Darkhanbaatar and Ganbaatar Myagmartseren in the round of 16 tomorrow.

Diving: Indian duo crash out in men's 3m springboard

Indian diver Siddhant Bajrang Pardeshi finished 16th with a score of 236.35 in the men's 3m springboard preliminary round at Hangzhou 2023. London Singh Hemam, meanwhile, scored 207.00, ranking 17th, as both Indians did not make the final.

Siddhant Bajrang Pardeshi and London Singh Hemam were sixth on Saturday, September 30 in the men's synchronised 3m springboard final.

Archery: Atanu Das, Dhiraj Bommadevara ousted in recurve quarters

Indian archer Atanu Das lost 6-5 against China's Qi Xiangsho in the men's individual recurve quarter-final at the Asian Games 2023. Featuring in his third continental meet, Atanu Das exchanged sets with Qi Xiangsho in the match, which went into a shoot-off after the scores were tied. The Chinese archer scored 10+, sealing a semi-final place.

Dhiraj Bommadevara, too, suffered a quarter-final defeat in the shoot-off against Ilfat Abdullin of Kazakhstan. The 22-year-old Dhiraj had an opportunity to secure the win in the fourth set. However, he missed his second shot to allow the Kazakhstan archer to level the scores. In the shoot-off, Dhiraj shot a nine while Abdullin shot 10 to make the semi-final.

Boxing: Lovlina Borgohain advances to gold medal bout, Preeti Pawar wins bronze

Lovlina Borgohain, the reigning world champion, won 5:0 on points against Thailand's Baison Maneekon in the women's 75kg semi-final at the Asian Games 2023. The 26-year-old Indian boxer made it to the gold medal match on her Asian Games debut while securing an Olympic quota for India.

NOCs have exclusive authority for the representation of their respective NOC teams at the Olympic Games. Athletes' participation at the Paris Games will depend on their NOC selecting them to represent their delegation at Paris 2024.

The Tokyo 2020 Olympics bronze medallist Lovlina unanimously took the opening round. However, Baison bounced back, edging the second round. It wasn't enough as Lovlina controlled the final round and won the semi-final bout.

Lovlina Borgohain, also the 2022 Asian champion, will fight in the Asian Games 2023 gold medal bout tomorrow at 1:15 PM IST.

Indian boxer Preeti Pawar, on the other hand, lost 5:0 on points against the 2018 Asian Games champion Chang Yuan of China in the women's 54kg semi-final. The 2022 Asian Championships bronze medallist Preeti Pawar settled for bronze at Hangzhou, too.

Preeti Pawar's bronze medal is India's second in boxing at the Asian Games 2023. Nikhat Zareen had bagged the women's 50kg bronze. Boxers Narender Berwal and Parveen Hooda are also assured medals.

ICYMI: Ancy Sojan won the women's long jump silver

Ancy Sojan Edappilly leapt a personal best of 6.63m, winning the women's long jump silver medal on her Asian Games debut on Monday. The 22-year-old Indian athlete had missed out on an Asian Championships medal earlier this year.

Archery: Ojas Deotale vs Abhishek Verma in men's compound final

Indian archers Ojas Deotale and Abhishek Verma secured a gold and silver medal in men's individual compound archery after winning their respective semi-final at the Asian Games 2023.

Abhishek Verma won 147-145 against top seed Jaehoon Joo while Ojas Deotale, with back-to-back 150 scores, beat Jaewon Yang by four points. The two Republic of Korea archers will battle it out for a bronze medal.

Ojas Deotale vs Abhishek Verma men's individual compound archery gold medal match will kick off at 7:10 AM IST on Saturday, October 7 at Hangzhou.

Cricket: Indian men's team beat Nepal, advance to semis

The Indian men's cricket team beat Nepal by 23 runs in the quarter-final, becoming the first semi-finalists at the Asian Games 2023.

Yashasvi Jaiswal set the platform with a magnificent century with the bat, making him the youngest Indian to score a T20I ton. Rinku Singh also played a cameo towards the end, helping India score 202/4.

With the ball, Ravi Bishnoi and Avesh Khan picked up three wickets, each, while R Sai Kishore also bagged a wicket on his T20I debut.

India will take the field in the men's cricket semi-final at Hangzhou on Friday, October 6 at 6:30 AM IST.

Hockey: India blank Hong Kong China in final Pool A match

The Indian women's hockey team won 13-0 against Hong Kong China in their final Pool A match at the Asian Games 2023. Deep Grace Ekka, Deepika and Vandana Katariya smashed hat tricks, Sangita Kumari scored a brace while Monika and Navneet Kaur also got on the scoresheet.

Courtesy of the win, India finished atop Pool A and made it through to the women's hockey semi-finals, where they will take on the Pool B runners up on Thursday, October 5. The Indian team scored 33 goals and conceded only once in the four group matches.

Badminton: PV Sindhu through to round of 16

Indian badminton ace PV Sindhu, world No. 15, beat Wen Chi Hsu, ranked 21st in the world, 21-10, 21-15 in the women's singles round of 32 at the Asian Games 2023. The Chinese Taipei player was unable to match the intensity of two-time Asian Games medallist PV Sindhu. The Indian shuttler will feature in the women's singles round of 16 tomorrow.

Ashmita Chaliha, on the other hand, lost to Gregoria Mariska Tunjung, an Asian Games women's team bronze medallist, and was ousted in the round of 32.

Meanwhile, former world No.1 Kidambi Srikanth will play the Republic of Korea's Yungyu Lee in the men's singles round of 32 at 2:10 PM IST today.

Cricket: Dipendra Singh Airee dismissed as Nepal falter

Indian leg spinner Ravi Bishnoi got the crucial wicket of Nepal's Dipendra Singh Airee, the fastest T20I fifty record holder, to put India in the ascendancy of the men's cricket quarter-final at the Asian Games 2023..

Airee scored 32 runs off 15 balls before ending his stay at the crease. No other Nepalese batter, however, has been able to score quickly. Bishnoi, meanwhile, scalped three wickets in his four-over spell while Sai Kishore and Avesh Khan also took one, each.

Nepal are at 128/5 after 15 overs with 75 runs needed in 30 balls to make it to the quarter-final at Hangzhou.

Archery: Jyothi Surekha Vennam beats Aditi Swami in compound semis

Jyothi Surekha Vennam won 149-146 against Aditi Swami in an all-Indian women's individual compound archery semi-final at the Asian Games 2023. 

Aditi Swami scored 30 in each of the first four ends to take a one-point lead. However, a mistake in the first arrow of the final end cost Aditi a place in the final.

A World Cup gold medallist, Jyothi Surekha Vennam will take aim in the gold medal match on Saturday, October 7 at 6:30 AM IST. Meanwhile, Aditi Swami will compete for the bronze medal at 6:10 AM IST the same day.

Squash: Dipika Pallikal-Harinder Pal Singh win in mixed doubles Pool A

Indian mixed doubles squash pair Dipika Pallikal and Harinder Pal Singh Sandhu bagged an 11-5, 11-5 win against Japan's Risa Sugimoto and Tomotaka Endo in the Pool A encounter at Hangzhou 2023.

The Indian duo have won all three group matches to finish top of Pool A. Dipika and Harinder will take the court in the quarter-finals, starting at 2:30 PM IST today.

Meanwhile, Anahat Singh and Abhay Singh won 11-10, 11-8 against Hong Kong China's Tong Tsz Wing and Tang Ming Hong in their final group match, finishing atop the Pool D points table and making the quarter-finals at the Asian Games 2023.

Cricket: Tough start for Nepal in run chase

The Indian men's cricket team bowlers, headlined by R Sai Kishore and Avesh Khan, have restricted Nepal to 73/2 after 10 overs in a 203-run chase in the quarter-final at the Asian Games 2023.

Avesh Khan dismissed Aasif Sheikh for 15 in the fourth over. Meanwhile, R Sai Kishore bagged his first T20I wicket, getting the better of Kushal Bhurtel in the ninth over.

Nepal need 130 runs in 60 balls, at 13 runs per over, to win the quarter-final with Kushal Malla, the joint-fastest T20I ton record holder, and captain Rohit Paudel batting in the middle.

Archery: Ojas Deotale, Abhishek Verma advance to semis

Indian archer Ojas Pravin Deotale beat Kazakhstan's Akbarali Karabayev 150-142 in the men's individual compound archery quarter-final at the Asian Games 2023. Ojas Deotale, India's first men's archery world champion, notched a perfect score at all five ends.

Abhishek Verma, meanwhile, won in a shoot-off against Andrey Tyutyun of Kazakhstan in the quarter-final. While the scores were tied 147-147 after five sets, Abhishek was closest to X in the shoot-off, taking him to the semi-final.

The Indian duo will take on Korean opposition in the men's individual compound semi-final, starting at 9:30 AM IST today.

Canoe sprint: Men's C2 1000m team win bronze

India's Arjun Singh and Sunil Singh Salam, who clocked 3:53.329, finished third in the men's canoe double 1000m final, bagging the bronze medal at the Asian Games 2023.

It is India's second canoe medal in Asian Games history. Johnny Rommel and Siji Kumar Sadanandan won a bronze in the same race at the 1994 Asian Games in Hiroshima.

The women's kayak four 500m and canoe double 200m teams, meanwhile, finished eighth in their respective finals today, failing to add another canoe medal.

Badminton: HS Prannoy makes pre-quarters

Indian men's badminton ace HS Prannoy won 21-9, 21-12 against Mongolia's Batdavaa Munkhbat in the singles round of 32 at the Asian Games 2023. The world No. 7 Indian shuttler had received a bye in the first round.

Prannoy, the reigning World Championships bronze medallist, will go up against Jordan's Bahaedeen Alshannik or Kazakhstan's Dmitriy Panarin in the round of 16 tomorrow.

Meanwhile, PV Sindhu vs Wen-Chi Hsu women's singles badminton round of 32 match is scheduled for 8:50 AM IST today.

Cricket: India 202/4 vs Nepal in men's quarters

The Indian men's cricket team scored 202/4 against Nepal in the quarter-final, courtesy of Yashasvi Jaiswal's century, at the Asian Games 2023. 

Yashasvi Jaiswal top-scored with 100 runs off 49 balls, while Rinku Singh blazed to a 15-ball 37 in the closing stages of the innings. Skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad, Tilak Varma and Jitesh Sharma, meanwhile, failed to score freely at Hangzhou.

A successful chase of 203 will take Nepal to the semi-final. Arshdeep Singh, Ravi Bishnoi and Avesh Khan will lead the Indian bowling attack in the second innings.

Canoe sprint: Soniya Devi finishes eighth in K1 500m final

India's Soniya Devi clocked 2:14.555 and finished eighth in the women's kayak single 500m final at the Asian Games 2023. The 27-year-old Soniya, racing in her third Asian Games, was 15.624 seconds behind the gold medal winner Li Dongyin from China. Singapore's Jiexian Stephenie Chen bagged silver while Islamic Republic of Iran's Hediye Kazemi settled for bronze.

Soniya Devi will feature in the women's kayak four 500m final today at 9:15 AM IST.

Sepaktakraw: Republic of Korea beat India in men's quadrant

India lost 21-16, 16-21, 21-16 against the Republic of Korea in the men's quadrant sepaktakraw Group B match at Hangzhou 2023.

The Indian men's quadrant team finished with two wins and two defeats in four group stage matches, failing to qualify for the semi-final. Indonesia, the Philippines, Myanmar and Japan will feature in the final four.

Cricket: Yashasvi Jaiswal scores ton vs Nepal

Yashasvi Jaiswal smashed 100 off 49 balls, his second century in T20 cricket, with eight fours and seven sixes while striking at 204.28. It is the joint-fourth fastest century by an Indian batter in T20Is. At 21 years and 279 days, Yashasvi is also the youngest Indian to score a T20I ton.

Ruturaj Gaikwad and Yashasvi Jaiswal forged a century opening stand in the men's cricket quarter-final against Nepal at the Asian Games 2023. However, skipper Ruturaj got out after a 23-ball 25. Tilak Varma and Jitesh Sharma, the No. 3 and No. 4 batters, respectively, were also dismissed cheaply.

Shivam Dube and Rinku Singh are in the middle with India 156/4 vs Nepal after 17 overs in the men's cricket quarter-final at Hangzhou.

Athletics: Tejaswin Shankar second in decathlon standings after pole vault

Tejaswin Shankar, competing in the men's decathlon, finished fifth in the 110m hurdles event, scoring 876 points at the Asian Games 2023. The 24-year-old Indian athlete, then, registered a personal best of 39.28m in the discus throw event, adding 650 points to his tally. Later, he finished sixth in the pole vault, despite a personal best of 4.10m.

Tejaswin, the Asian Championships men's decathlon bronze medallist, slipped to the second spot in the decathlon standings after three events today. China's Sun Qihao is first with 6522 points, 91 points ahead of the Indian athlete, and Japan's Yuma Maruyama is third after eight rounds. Javelin throw and 1500m race are the final two events, starting from 4:35 PM IST today.

Athletics: Harmilan Bains, Chanda, men's 4x400m relay team top heats 

Harmilan Bains clocked 2:06.62 to finish first in heat 2 while Chanda finished atop heat 1 with 2:07.38 in the women's 800m heats at the Asian Games 2023. The Indian duo secured direct qualification for the women's 800m final tomorrow, starting at 4:55 PM IST.

On Sunday, Harmilan Bains bagged the women's 1500m silver at Hangzhou. Meanwhile, Chanda won the 800m silver medal at the Asian Championships earlier this year.

India's Muhammed Anas Yahiya, Nihal Joel William, Amoj Jacob and Mijo Chacko Kurian also finished first in the men's 4x400m relay heat 1 with a time of 3:03.81, two seconds quicker than second-placed Qatar. The Indian quartet will race in the final tomorrow at 6:05 PM IST.

Cricket: Yashasvi Jaiswal cruises to fifty

The Indian men's cricket team are 84/0 after eight overs against Nepal in the quarter-final. Opener Yashasvi Jaiswal has smashed five fours and five sixes as he is unbeaten on a 31-ball 65 while striking above 200. Captain Ruturaj Gaikwad has been steady in the early stages.

Tilak Varma, Jitesh Sharma and Rinku Singh are up next in the Indian men's cricket team batting order.

Indian cricketer Dinesh Karthik with high praise for debutant R Sai Kishore

R Sai Kishore was seen welling up ahead of his debut match for India. It was an emotional moment for the 26-year-old. Fellow Indian cricketer Dinesh Karthik sums up the feeling on social media. 

“God has his ways of giving back to people who work hard,” Karthik wrote. "This unbelievable player who has DOMINATED domestic cricket with the white ball is an absolute superstar and I couldn't be happier for him. 

“Woke up in the morning and when I saw his name in the playing 11, I was emotional seeing it. You want some people to do well, he was always on the top of my list. The way he's improved his batting tells you all about him, he was literally a STROKELESS wonder, and from there he's absolutely transformed into someone who can be relied upon in any format. 

"I can keep speaking about him, but for now, I'm just so happy to see him become an INDIAN cricketer and no one can ever take that away from him.”

Kabaddi: India seal comfortable win vs Bangladesh

The Indian men's kabaddi team won 55-18 against Bangladesh in the Group A match at the Asian Games 2023.

The Indian raiders were on top form today, headlined by six bonus points. Team India defenders too delivered eight all-outs, six in the second half. Bangladesh relied on defence for points but they failed to inflict all-outs.

India successfully opened their men's kabaddi campaign at Hangzhou, where they will eye the top spot. They will take on Thailand tomorrow at 6:00 AM IST in their next Group A encounter.

Archery: Jyothi Surekha Vennam, Aditi Swami through to semis

Indian archer Jyothi Surekha Vennam won 147-144 against Kazakhstan's Adel Zhexenbinova in the women's individual compound quarter-final at the Asian Games 2023. Jyothi, an Archery World Cup gold medallist, scored 30 points in the second and fifth ends. 

Aditi Swami, meanwhile, scored an Asian Games record 149 against Amaya Amparo Cojuangco of the Philippines in the quarter-final, storming into the semi-finals. After scoring 29 in the first set, world champion Aditi scored 30 in the remaining four.

In the first women's individual compound semi-final, Indian archers Jyothi Surekha Vennam and Aditi Swami will play each other, starting at 8:50 AM IST. Aditi had gotten the better of Jyothi in the 2023 World Championship semi-final.

Cricket: India win toss, elect to bat first

The Indian men's cricket team captain Ruturaj Gaikwad won the toss and elected to bat first against Nepal in the quarter-final at the Asian Games 2023. Jitesh Sharma and R Sai Kishore are making their T20I debut.

India are playing their first men's cricket match in Asian Games history. The winner of India vs Nepal will advance to the semi-final at Hangzhou.

Kabaddi at the Asian Games 2023 continues as seven-time champions India will kick off against Bangladesh in the men’s event. The Indian women’s team, meanwhile, will look to bounce back against the Republic of Korea.

World champion boxer Lovlina Borgohain can secure a women’s 75kg Olympic quota today with a win in the semi-final. Preeti Pawar (women’s 54kg) and Narender (men’s +92kg) will also punch for a final spot. Sachin Siwach can confirm India’s fifth boxing medal at Hangzhou 2023.

Vithya Ramraj, Tejaswin Shankar, Parul Chaudhary, Praveen Chitravel and Abdulla Aboobacker will lead India’s athletics medal hopes on Tuesday.
