The men’s cricket tournament at the Asian Games 2023 runs was played from September 27 to October 7. The Zhejiang University of Technology Pingfeng Cricket Field in Hangzhou, the People’s Republic of China hosted all the matches.
Hangzhou 2023 also marked cricket’s return to the Asian Games programme after nine years. After featuring at Guangzhou 2010 and Incheon 2014, the sport was dropped from the 2018 edition in Jakarta.
Like in 2010 and 2014, cricket at the Asian Games 2023 is being played in the T20 format.
India were crowned champions by virtue of their global T20 ranking after the final against Afghanistan was called off due to rain. Afghanistan won their third silver medal on the trot, while Bangladesh defeated Pakistan to win the bronze medal.
The men’s cricket tournament at the Asian Games 2023 was contested by 14 teams. Asian powerhouse India fielded a cricket team for the first time at the continental meet.
India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Afghanistan - the top-five ranked teams in the ICC T20I rankings as of June 1, 2023 - were granted direct entry into the quarter-finals.
The remaining nine teams, meanwhile, were divided into three groups of three teams each for the preliminary round. After single-legged round-robin matches, the group winners joined the big five in the quarters.

At the 2010 Asian Games, Bangladesh won the men’s cricket gold medal with Afghanistan taking the silver and Pakistan winning bronze. In 2014, Sri Lanka beat Afghanistan to the gold while Bangladesh settled for bronze.
