Worldwide Olympic Partner Samsung keeping athletes connected during Beijing 2022 with limited-edition smartphones
Worldwide Olympic Partner Samsung, in collaboration with the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and International Paralympic Committee (IPC), has unveiled an exclusive limited-edition mobile device that will be gifted to all athletes competing at the Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games Beijing 2022.
The Galaxy Z Flip3 5G Olympic and Paralympic Edition smartphone features a sleek design to commemorate Beijing 2022 and will be the first foldable athlete mobile phone distributed to Games participants. The device will help enhance the athlete experience and allow competitors to stay connected to family, friends and fans throughout the Games, enabling them to capture memories and the excitement around Beijing. Additionally, the Samsung mobile devices provided during the Olympic and Paralympic Games will include a range of pre-loaded apps, containing all the information required for athletes at Beijing 2022.
As the exclusive wireless communications equipment provider of the Olympic and Paralympic Games, Samsung first introduced its limited-edition smartphones for the Olympic Winter Games Nagano 1998, and has been providing them to athletes since the Olympic Winter Games Sochi 2014. This initiative expanded to Paralympians for PyeongChang 2018 and continued at Tokyo 2020.
Beijing 2022 Team Samsung Galaxy
In addition to launching its latest athlete edition smartphone, Samsung has also unveiled its Team Samsung Galaxy roster of athlete ambassadors for Beijing 2022, who represent the diverse passions of athletes and fans across the world.
The team includes 22 world-class athletes – representing 12 National Olympic and Paralympic Committees and consisting of 15 Olympians and 7 Paralympians – who defy barriers and inspire fans through their athletic achievements and off-field contributions to their communities.
Throughout Beijing 2022, Team Samsung Galaxy athletes will serve as ambassadors for Samsung’s ‘United by Passion’ campaign, showcasing the company’s commitment to uniting diverse athletes through mobile innovation.
Innovative technology to empower
For fans and media who are unable to attend the Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Samsung has developed several digital-first initiatives to bring them closer to the action in Beijing.
These include the Samsung Beijing 2022 Virtual Media Centre, which will offer press resources, brand information and exclusive on-site content from the Games, and the #CheerTogether campaign, which will allow fans to show athletes their support virtually.
#StrongerTogether Challenge Beijing 2022, a digital walking challenge within the Samsung Health app, will allow fans around the world to connect together. Fans can feel the power of becoming stronger together and have a chance to win the official IOC Licensed Olympic NFT pin.
In addition, Samsung will again operate its Athletes’ Lounges at the three Villages where the athletes will be staying, with several on-site activations to entertain and engage during the Games.
“Samsung's partnership with the Olympic Movement enables us to use the platform of sport to demonstrate how we have connected fans with the Games for over 30 years. We are proud to be a part of the Olympic Movement and are committed to empowering meaningful connections through our technological contributions,” said Younghee Lee, CMO and Executive Vice President, Samsung Electronics.
Timo Lumme, Managing Director, IOC Television and Marketing Services added: “Samsung’s technology, innovation and commitment will allow fans and media from around the world to globally unite through a shared passion, and experience the Olympic Winter Games Beijing 2022 up close and in real-time, safely and securely.”
