The Phaleron Sports Pavilion was purpose-built to host the Olympic Games Athens 2004 taekwondo and handball competitions. It is part of Kallithea, which spreads out between Athens and the Bay of Phaleron, over an area of 450 hectares. This venue, together with the Olympic Beach Volleyball Centre, the Marina and the Esplanade, was included in a wider urban area redevelopment project of the coastal zone.
After the Olympic Games, the pavilion has remained under the management of Public Properties Company SA. Today, it serves as a multi-purpose venue that functions as a convention centre, and also hosts sporting events and numerous music concerts every year.
