They discussed the Olympic Truce Resolution, for which Mr Lajčák offered his full support. They also agreed that the values of the UN and the IOC were fully aligned.
The two leaders also discussed the cooperation between the United Nations and the IOC on various topics with regard to peace-building and the UN Sustainable Development Goals, highlighting in particular refugee programmes and the newly created Olympic Refuge Foundation with the UNHCR, together with gender equality with UN Women and the environment with UNEP.
President Lajcak expressed his appreciation for the work and success of the IOC and the Olympic Games.
They agreed that the theme of his mandate focusing on people was one where sport plays an important role.
President Bach thanked him for his great commitment to sport and the Olympic values, and invited him to attend the Olympic Winter Games in PyeongChang next year.
