Activity update from IPACS

The first meeting of the newly composed IPACS Steering Committee took place virtually on 18 January. The Committee members agreed on the strategic events roadmap for 2023 and this year’s priorities, which include the promotion and dissemination of the IPACS tools to governments and sports organisations at national and regional level, the representation of IPACS at key fora on the topic of integrity and anti-corruption in sport, and the launch of the ‘Frontrunners Network’. The latter will serve to promote and enhance cooperation and the exchange of information and good practices among frontline anti-corruption law enforcement practitioners, representatives of sports organisations and other relevant stakeholders.

The finalised Guidelines on the delivery of Games infrastructure and associated services and a related online tool were presented to key representatives from the worlds of sports and policy makers in infrastructure and public procurement during a dedicated workshop on 30 March. The guidelines, which will be disseminated shortly, are aimed at supporting knowledge management and sharing across Organising Committees and will also be a resource for any organisation looking to maximise the value of infrastructure investments and services. The workshop was attended by experts from the Olympic Games Organising Committees of Paris 2024, Milan Cortina 2026 and Los Angeles 2028, and the organisers of the Youth Olympic Games in Dakar 2026 as well as of regional and continental games.

In parallel, the UNODC and IOC, as co-facilitators of IPACS Task Force 4, are about to finalise a legislative guide that analyses anti-bribery standards and laws internationally and proposes ways of their applicability in the sporting context. This document will complement the first topical guide published in 2021 (“Tackling Bribery in Sport: an overview of relevant Laws and Standards”).
