India added a shooting gold, a wushu silver and an equestrian bronze medal to the tally after an eventful fifth day at the Asian Games 2023 on Thursday.
Naorem Roshibina Devi won the women’s 60kg silver in wushu, India’s first medal of the day, bettering her bronze finish at the 2018 Asian Games.
Shooters Sarabjot Singh, Arjun Singh Cheema and Shiva Narwal clinched the men's 10m air pistol team gold. India have bagged 13 shooting medals - four gold, four silver and five bronze - at Hangzhou.
Anush Agarwalla, meanwhile, settled for a bronze in equestrian, India’s first-ever individual dressage medal at the continental meet.
The Indian men’s hockey team beat reigning champions Japan and took the top spot in Pool A. The men’s football team, however, were ousted by Saudi Arabia in the round of 16.
Tennis pair Ramkumar Ramanathan and Saketh Myneni won their men’s doubles bronze medal match. They will defend India’s crown in the gold medal match tomorrow. Rohan Bopanna and Rutuja Bhosale, too, are assured a mixed doubles medal.
The Indian squash teams advanced to the semi-finals while also guaranteeing two medals at the 19th Asian Games. Sharath Kamal, Manika Batra and Sathiyan Gnanasekaran won their opening TT singles matches.
Boxers Nishant Dev and Jaismine Lamboria won their pre-quarterfinal bouts and are one win away from an assured medal, each, at Hangzhou.

Hockey: India win 4-2 vs Japan in Pool A match
The Indian men's hockey team clinched a 4-2 victory against reigning Asian Games champions Japan in their third match at Hangzhou. The success took Team India to the top spot in the Pool A points table.
Abhishek and Mandeep Singh scored the goals in the first and second quarters, respectively. In the second half, Amit Rohidas netted from a penalty corner while Abhishek, then, smashed his second goal of the match. However, Genki Mitani and Ryosei Kato, both, scored a goal in the final five minutes to stop PR Sreejesh from registering his second clean sheet at the Asian Games 2023.
India, meanwhile, had smashed 16 goals in their two previous group stage matches this edition. The Harmanpreet Singh-led Indian team will take on Pakistan in their next Pool A match on September 30 at 6:15 PM IST.
Olympics and world champion javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra arrives at Hangzhou
Bridge: Men's team placed second after eight rounds
The Indian men's bridge team are currently ranked second with 104.57 points after eight rounds with 98 boards played at the Asian Games 2023.
Meanwhile, in the mixed team event, India have played 98 boards and placed sixth with 86.79 points after eight rounds. The Indian women's bridge team are seventh with 37.76 points after 70 boards played in five rounds.
Boxing: Nishant Dev advances to quarters
India's Nishant Dev, a world championships bronze medallist, knocked out Vietnam's Phuoc Tung Bui in the men's 71kg round of 16 boxing bout at the Asian Games 2023. The 22-year-old Indian boxer stormed into the quarter-final in one minute and 38 seconds.
Nishant Dev will fight Sewonrets Quincy Mensah Okazawa for a semi-final spot on September 30 at 6:30 PM IST.
Swimming: Women's 4x200m freestyle relay breaks national record
Indian swimmers Dhinidhi Desinghu, Vritti Agarwal, Shivangi Sarma and Hashika Ramachandra created a new women's 4x200m freestyle relay national record time, clocking 8:37.58, in the final at the Asian Games 2023. The quartet had set the previous record (8:39.64) in the heats earlier today. However, Team India finished last in the final.
Meanwhile, the Indian men's 4x100m freestyle relay team also finished last in the final at Hangzhou. Srihari Nataraj and Co. clocked 3:21.46, 10.58 seconds behind the Chinese team, who broke the Asian record.
Football: India lose to Saudi Arabia in round of 16
The Indian men's football team went down 2-0 against Saudi Arabia in the round of 16 match at the Asian Games 2023.
Headlined by Sandesh Jhingan, the Indian team defended compactly and kept their opponents at bay for the first half. The Igor Stimac-managed team also created a few goal-scoring opportunities themselves.
However, Saudi Arabia's Mohammed Khalil Marran scored a brace in a six-minute span to win the match in the second half. They will take on Indonesia in the quarter-final.

Swimming: Indians falter in men's 800m freestyle fast heat
Indian swimmers Aryan Nehra and Kushagra Rawat finished in the bottom two of the men's 800m freestyle fast heat, a medal event, at the Asian Games 2023. Nehra clocked 8:04.06 to rank seventh while Rawat was eighth with a time of 8:14.01.
The Republic of Korea's Woomin Kim shattered the Asian Games record by 2.33 seconds on his way to clinching the gold medal. The 22-year-old swimmer also bagged the 1500m freestyle silver and 4x200m freestyle relay gold at Hangzhou.
Boxing: Deepak Bhoria ousted in round of 16
Indian boxer Deepak Bhoria, the reigning world championship bronze medallist, lost 4:1 on points against Japan's Tomoya Tsuboi in the men's 51kg pre-quarterfinal at Hangzhou 2023. Despite a point deduction in the bout, the former world champion Japanese boxer got the better of the 26-year-old Deepak.
Nishant Dev, meanwhile, will fight in the men's 71kg pre-quarterfinal against Bui Phuoc Tung of Vietnam at 6:45 PM IST today.
Tennis: Bopanna-Bhosale through to doubles semis, medal assured
Indian mixed doubles pair Rohan Bopanna and Rutuja Bhosale, the second seeds, won 7-5, 6-3 against eighth-seeded Grigoriy Lomakin and Zhibek Kulambayeva of Kazakhstan in the quarter-final at the Asian Games 2023. After a closely contested first set, the Kazakhstan duo failed to match the intensity of the Indian pair in the second.
The victory assured Bopanna and Bhosale a medal at Hangzhou. The previous Indian mixed doubles tennis medal was bagged in the 2014 Asian Games, a gold by Saketh Myneni and Sania Mirza.
Rohan Bopanna / Rutuja Bhosale will take on Chinese Taipei's Chan Hao-ching / Hsu Yu-hsiou in the mixed doubles semi-final tomorrow.
Golf: Anirban Lahiri finishes T9 in round 1
Two-time Olympian Anirban Lahiri scored 65, -7 to par, to finish T9 (tied for ninth place) in the men's individual golf round 1 at the Asian Games 2023. The 36-year-old Indian golfer hit five birdies on the bounce between holes 13 and 17.
Meanwhile, SSP Chawrasia (67), Shubhankar Sharma (68) and Khalin Joshi (70) are T19, T22 and T31, respectively.
The Indian men's golf team are T5, along with Hong Kong China, after the first round with a score of 200. The men's and women's round 2 events will be played tomorrow.
Tennis: Ramanathan-Myneni make doubles gold medal match
India will defend its men's doubles title at the Asian Games as Ramkumar Ramanathan and Saketh Myneni made the final at Hangzhou 2023. The second-seeded Indian pair beat the Republic of Korea's Soonwoo Kwon and Seongchan Hong 6-1, 7-6, 10-0 in the semi-final today.
While India won the first set with ease, the South Korean pair matched Ramanathan and Myneni's intensity in the second set to level the match. However, the Indian duo won all the points in the 10-point-tie-breaker to advance to the final.
The Indian contingent has previously won five men's doubles gold medals at the continental meet. Ramanathan and Myneni will take on Chinese Taipei's Yu-hsiou Hsu and Jason Jung in the men's doubles gold medal match tomorrow.
Indian men's football team prepare for round of 16 clash vs Saudi Arabia
Table tennis: Sharath Kamal, G Sathiyan make singles round of 16
Indian paddler Sharath Kamal won 11-9, 11-2, 11-7, 11-7 against Maldives' Mohamed Shaffan Ismail in the men's singles round of 32 at Hangzhou 2023. The 41-year-old Indian ace won two Asian Games bronze medals in 2018 - men's team and mixed doubles.
Sharath Kamal will go up against Chinese Taipei's Chih-Yuan Chuang in the round of 16 tomorrow.
Compatriot Sathiyan Gnanasekaran, too, booked a men's double round of 16 berth. The 30-year-old Indian paddler beat Saudi Arabia's Turki Lafi Almutairi in straight games. G Sathiyan will go up against second seed Wang Chuqin of China for a spot in the quarter-final.
Equestrian: Anush Agarwalla wins bronze
India's Anush Agarwalla bagged his second Asian Games 2023 equestrian medal, a bronze, after ranking third in the dressage intermediate I freestyle event. The 23-year-old rider, mounted on horse Etro, scored 73.030 per cent of the points. It is the first-ever individual dressage medal at the Asian Games.
Vipul Chheda, on the other hand, was eliminated from the dressage individual event. On Tuesday, Indian riders had clinched the equestrian dressage team gold at Hangzhou.

Squash: India beat Nepal in men's team tie
The Indian men's squash team won 3-0 against Nepal in the Pool A tie at Hangzhou 2023.
Abhay Singh and Mahesh Mangaonkar won their matches in straight games against Amrit Thapa and Arhant Simha, respectively. Harinder Pal Singh Sandhu, meanwhile, followed suit in the final match with an 11-1, 11-2, 11-6 victory.
India won four of the five group matches at the Asian Games 2023, assuring a semi-final spot and a medal. Their only defeat came against Pakistan on Wednesday.
Earlier, the Indian women's squash team made the semi-final and assured the nation's first squash medal at Hangzhou.
Table tennis: Women's doubles pairs advance to round of 16
Indian women's doubles pair Sreeja Akula and Diya Chitale won 11-8, 15-13, 11-6 against Vietnam's Tran Mai Ngoc and Nguyen Thi Nga in the round of 32 match at the Asian Games 2023.
Later, Sutirtha Mukherjee and Ayhika Mukherjee beat Zauresh Akasheva and Anastassiya Lavrona of Kazakhstan in straight games, too, in their women's doubles round of 32 clash at Hangzhou.
The two Indian women's doubles pairs will feature in the round of 16 tomorrow from 1:30 PM onwards. Sreeja Akula / Diya Chitale will go up against fifth seeds Miwa Harimoto / Miyuu Kihara from Japan. Meanwhile, Sutirtha Mukherjee / Ayhika Mukherjee will face Thailand's Wanwisa Aueawiriyayothin / Jinnipa Sawettabut.
Artistic gymnastics: Pranati Nayak finishes eighth in vault final
Indian gymnast Pranati Nayak finished with a score of 12.350 to rank eighth in the women's vault final at the Asian Games 2023. The 28-year-old scored 12.100, with -0.3 penalty points, in vault 1 and notched 12.600 in vault 2. She had qualified sixth in the subdivision 1 round at Hangzhou.
Pranati Nayak had also finished eighth in the vault final at the 2018 Asian Games in Jakarta.
Football: India vs Saudi Arabia in men's round of 16
The Indian men's football team, ranked 102nd in the world, will take on world No. 57 Saudi Arabia in the men's round of 16 match at the Asian Games 2023.
Sunil Chhetri and Co. lost their campaign opener to China, however, a win against Bangladesh followed by a stalemate versus Myanmar helped India to make the knockout stages. Saudi Arabia, meanwhile, beat Mongolia and Vietnam while holding onto a draw against the Islamic Republic of Iran in their group matches.
In men's football, India have bagged three medals at the Asian Games - two gold (1951, 1962) and one bronze (1970).
Track cycling: David Beckham Elkatohchoongo ranked eighth in men's sprint
Indian cyclist David Beckham Elkatohchoongo finished eighth in the men's sprint event at the Asian Games 2023. David Beckham clocked 0.109 seconds behind fifth-placed Chinese Taipei's Shih-Feng Kang in the 5th-8th places race.
Triyasha Paul, meanwhile, lost in the women's sprint 1/16 final repechage heat to the Republic of Korea's Hyeonseo Hwang.
While it marked the end of Triyasha Paul's Hangzhou campaign, David Beckham will race in the men's keirin heats tomorrow at 12:00 PM IST.
Boxing: Jaismine Lamboria punches her way into quarters
India's Jaismine Lamboria won her women's 60kg round of 16 boxing bout against Saudi Arabia's Hadeel Ghazwan Ashour after the referee stopped contest in the second round at Hangzhou. The 22-year-old Indian pugilist had scored a perfect 10 in round 1.
Commonwealth Games 2022 bronze medallist Jaismine Lamboria will take on Ungyong Won from DPR Korea in the quarter-final on October 1 at 12:30 PM IST. Jaismine is one win away from a medal at the Asian Games and sealing a women's 60kg Olympic quota for India.
Squash: Malaysia win 3-0 vs Indian women's team
Indian squash players Joshana Chinappa, Tanvi Khanna and Anahat Singh lost their matches in the women's team tie against Malaysia at the Asian Games 2023.
Joshana Chinappa went down 11-6, 11-2, 11-8 against Sivasangari Subramaniam while Tanvi Khanna lost a five-game versus Aifa Binti Azman. Despite Anahat Singh's efforts in the third game, Malaysian player Rachel Arnold won the final match 14-12 to seal a 3-0 victory.
It was India's first defeat in women's team squash Pool B while Malaysia won all their five group ties. However, both teams made it to the semi-final and assured themselves a medal at Hangzhou.
Table tennis: Sharath Kamal-G Sathiyan through to round of 16
India's Sharath Kamal and Sathiyan Gnanasekaran beat Ser-od Gankhuyag and Manlaijargal Munkh-Ochir of Mongolia 11-5, 11-3, 11-3 in the men's doubles round of 32 at the Asian Games 2023.
Meanwhile, Indian men's doubles pair Manush Utpalbhai Patel and Manav Vikash Thakkar also won 11-8, 9-11, 11-6, 11-2 in the same round against Maldives' Moosa Munif Ahmed and Mohamed Shaffan Ismail at Hangzhou.
Both Indian pairs will contest the round of 16 tomorrow from 9:00 AM IST.
Long sixes x long throws at Asian Games 2023
Indian men's cricket team's Rinku Singh posted a picture on his Instagram handle with Olympics and world champion javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra. The duo will feature at Hangzhou 2023.
India will contest in men's cricket for the first time at the continental meet. Meanwhile, the 25-year-old Neeraj Chopra will defend his Asian Games title in the men's javelin throw final on October 4.

Golf: Aditi Ashok T2 in round 1 individual standings
Tokyo Olympian Aditi Ashok is tied for second place in round 1 after scoring 67, -5 to par, in women's individual golf at the Asian Games 2023. Pranavi Urs (71) and Avani Prashanth (72) are T17 and T21, respectively.
The Indian women's golf team are ranked fifth after the first round with a score of 138. China, Japan and Thailand currently occupy the podium positions.
Naorem Roshibina Devi features on the Hangzhou 2023 podium
Indian wushu athlete Naorem Roshibina Devi won the women's 60kg silver medal at the Asian Games 2023 today. China's Wu Xiaowei clinched the gold medal while Vietnam's Nguyen Thi Thu Thuy and Shahrbano Mansouriyan Semiromi of the Islamic Republic of Iran settled for bronze medals.
Track cycling: David Beckham Elkatohchoongo loses in 1/16 final repechage
Indian cyclist David Beckham Elkatohchoongo did not win in the men's sprint 1/16 final repechage races at the Asian Games 2023. He will feature in the 5th-8th place race today at 12:36 PM IST.
Meanwhile, Niraj Kumar did not finish in the men's omnium cycling race at Hangzhou.
Table tennis: Manika Batra wins singles opener
Ace Indian table tennis player Manika Batra won 11-5, 11-4, 11-3, 11-2 against Nepal's Nabita Shrestha in the women's singles round of 32 match at the Asian Games 2023. Despite her mixed doubles defeat earlier today, Manika Batra looked in top form and made the singles pre-quarterfinal, which begins tomorrow.
Sreeja Akula, on the other hand, went down in four games against Songgyong Pyon from the Democratic People's Republic of Korea in the round of 32.
Shooting: Sarabjot Singh fourth in men's 10m air pistol individual final
Indian shooters Sarabjot Singh and Arjun Singh Cheema failed to add to their medal tally in the men's 10m air pistol individual final at the Asian Games 2023.
While Sarabjot finished fourth with a score of 199.0, Arjun scored 113.3 to rank eighth. The duo, along with Shiva Narwal, bagged the team gold medal at Hangzhou earlier today.
Vietnam's Pham Quang Huy won gold, Wonho Lee of the Republic of Korea claimed silver and Uzbekistan's Vladimir Svechnikov settled for bronze in the men's 10m air pistol event.
Meanwhile, India finished seventh in the mixed skeet qualification round and did not make the cut for the final.
Swimming: Men's 4x100m freestyle team set national record, through to final
Indian swimmers Tanish George Mathew, Vishal Grewal, Anand AS and Srihari Nataraj clocked 3:21.22, a national record time, in the men's 4x100m freestyle relay heats and advanced to the final. Team India will swim in the relay final today in Hangzhou at 6:18 PM IST.
Tanish, Srihari and Anand were also a part of the previous national record, a 3:23.72 at the 2019 Asian Age Group Championships.
The women's 4x200m freestyle relay team also made the final after finishing eighth in the heats with a time of 8:39.64. They will swim for a medal at 6:36 PM IST today.
Indian men's cricket team take off for Hangzhou
Led by Ruturaj Gaikwad, India will play the men's cricket quarter-final on October 3. Rinku Singh, Tilak Verma, Arshdeep Singh and Ravi Bishnoi, too, will feature for the Indian men's cricket team at the Asian Games 2023.
Earlier, India clinched the women's cricket gold medal at Hangzhou after beating Sri Lanka in the final.

Track cycling: Triyasha Paul to race in 1/16 final repechage
India's Triyasha Paul clocked 11.616 in the women's sprint cycling qualifying and advanced to the 1/16 final at the Asian Games 2023. However, she lost against Mina Sato of Japan in the 1/16 heats and will now race in the repechage round.
Meanwhile, Mayuri Lute finished last in the same qualifying event, which ended her Hangzhou campaign.
Table tennis: G Sathiyan-Manika Batra ousted in round of 16
Indian mixed doubles pair Sathiyan Gnanasekaran and Manika Batra lost 3-2 against Singapore's Zhe Yu Clarence and Jian Zeng in the round of 16 to crash out of the Asian Games 2023. The duo will feature in the singles category matches later today.
Harmeet Desai and Sreeja Akula, India's second mixed doubles pair, also lost 3-0 in the same round against Thai pair Phakpoom and Orawan Paranang.
Shooting: Men's 10m air pistol team cliches gold
Shooters Sarabjot Singh, Arjun Singh Cheema and Shiva Narwal shot a combined score of 1734 in the men's 10m air pistol team final to win the first Indian gold medal of the day at the Asian Games 2023. China bagged the silver medal while Vietnam settled for bronze to complete the podium.
Sarabjot Singh and Arjun Singh Cheema also made the individual event final at Hangzhou, which will start at 9:00 AM IST today.
Swimming: Shivangi Sarma, Virdhawal Khade falter in heats
Indian swimmer Shivangi Sarma clocked 26.92 seconds in the women's 50m freestyle heat 2 to finish seventh and 18th overall. The 20-year-old had also featured in the 100m freestyle and 4x100m freestyle relay, failing to bag a podium finish in either category.
Virdhawal Khade, meanwhile, finished seventh in the men's 50m butterfly heat 5 with a time of 24.67. He was ranked 19th overall and did not make the final. The Republic of Korea's Inchul Baek entered the final after clocking a Asian Games record time of 23.39.
The men's 4x100m freestyle relay and women's 4x200m freestyle relay teams will also swim soon at Hangzhou. Later, Aryan Nehra and Kushagra Rawat will compete in the men's 800m freestyle fast heat, a medal event.

Wushu: Naorem Roshibina Devi settles for silver
Indian wushu athlete Naorem Roshibina Devi, a bronze medallist at the 2018 Asian Games, lost the women's 60kg gold medal match 2-0 against China's Wu Xiaowei at the Asian Games 2023.
The 22-year-old Indian athlete, however, bagged the silver medal, equalling Sandhyarani Devi's feat from the 2010 Asian Games at Guangzhou. Naorem Roshibina Devi had defeated Kazakhstan's Aiman Karshyga and Nguyen Thi Thu Thuy in the previous rounds at Hangzhou.
Badminton: PV Sindhu leads women's team to quarters
Ace Indian shuttler PV Sindhu, world No. 15, beat Mongolia's 775th-ranked Myagmartseren Ganbaatar 21-2, 21-3 in the opening match of the India vs Mongolia women's team badminton tie.
Ashmita Chaliha, a South Asian Games women's singles champion, also won 21-2, 21-3 against Kherlen Darkhanbaatar in the second match to give India a 2-0 lead in the tie at Hangzhou.
In the third match, the 18-year-old Anupama Upadhyaya clinched a 21-0, 21-2 victory against Khulangoo Baatar as India won 3-0 in the round of 16.
PV Sindhu and Co. will take the court against Thailand tomorrow in the women's team quarter-final at 6:30 AM IST.
ICYMI: India's medal tally surged to 22
Indian shooters bagged seven medals - two gold, three silver and two bronze - on Wednesday while sailor Vishnu Saravanan also won a bronze medal, taking the medal tally to 22 at the Asian Games 2023.
India are currently the seventh-best nation at Hangzhou with five gold, seven silver and 10 bronze medals.
Aditi Ashok leads golf charge; shooting, badminton on early agenda
Ace golfer Aditi Ashok has begun her Asian Games 2023 campaign today in the first round of the women’s individual and team events. Anirban Lahiri and Co. will play in the men’s events from 8:00 AM IST.
Starting at 6:30 AM IST, skeet double medal-winner Anant Jeet Singh Naruka, along with Ganemat Sekhon, will take aim in the mixed skeet event. The men’s 10m air pistol events will also kick off concurrently.
The India vs Mongolia women’s team badminton tie will start at 6:30 AM IST as well.
