Inaugurated in 1984 when Barcelona was still in the candidature phase for hosting the Olympic Games, the velodrome was the first venue built for the Games.

Following some renovation work, the velodrome is today a multi-purpose venue with an artificial turf football pitch, two futsal courts, a basketball pavilion and four multi-purpose rooms. The venue hosts a cycling school and is also used for concerts and cultural events.
