Inaugurated in 1984 when Barcelona was still in the candidature phase for hosting the Olympic Games, the velodrome was the first venue built for [the Games](https://olympics.com/en/olympic-games/barcelona-1992).

Following some renovation work, the velodrome is today a multi-purpose venue with an artificial turf football pitch, two futsal courts, a basketball pavilion and four multi-purpose rooms. The venue hosts a cycling school and is also used for concerts and cultural events.
