Tennis 7de Olympiade
The Antwerp 1920 tennis venue was called the Royal Beerschot Tennis & Hockey Club. Some of its courts, having once been graced by one of tennis’s all-time greats, Suzanne Lenglen, remain available for use by Antwerp’s residents.
France’s Lenglen, a six-time Wimbledon champion, eased her way to the women’s singles and mixed doubles titles in 1920 (she also took bronze in the women’s doubles) at the venue, which is now proudly called “Tennis 7de Olympiade”.
The club was built in 1899 and is located next to the Olympisch Stadion. It had 14 courts made of crushed red brick, similar to those used at Roland Garros, the venue for the French Open.
According to the club’s official website, it is a thriving community hub with nine outdoor and seven indoor courts.
