Although an official Olympic Games poster has existed since Stockholm 1912, it was not until St Moritz 1928 that the Olympic rings first appeared on one. Since then, official posters have used the Olympic rings as a unifying element and a core part of the branding of every Olympic Games.
Usually selected by the Organising Committee, the official poster contributes to the specific look and feel of each Games, and comes to symbolise them. Based on a design created by Baron Pierre de Coubertin, the founder of the modern Olympic Games, in 1914, the Olympic rings are a global representation of the Olympic Movement.
The St Moritz 1928 poster follows a relatively simple design, with the rings appearing on the Olympic flag, behind which stands the Swiss flag and a snow-covered mountain.
