Created especially for Cortina 1956 and the venue for the men’s downhill, the Olympia delle Tofane run staged most of the women’s races and all the Alpine combined races at the 2021 FIS Alpine World Championships. The run has been staging FIS Women’s Alpine Ski World Cup races for the last 28 years and will be used for the Alpine events at the 2026 Olympic Winter Games.
It can be found on the Tofana di Mezzo, which also staged the women’s downhill (on the Canalone run) and the men’s and women’s slaloms (both on the Col Druscie run) at Cortina d’Ampezzo 1956. The mountain’s three Olympic runs form part of the route of the Cortina C.A.I. Snow Run, a nocturnal trail race first held in 2017, which ends at the Olympic Ice Stadium.
The men’s and women’s giant slalom at Cortina d’Ampezzo 1956 took place on Monte Faloria, on the Ilio Colli run, named after a local young skier killed in an accident there in 1953. Since renamed the Pista Vitelli, it remains very popular with recreational skiers today.
Cortina d’Ampezzo also provides the venue for a number of Nordic skiing competitions, the FIS Snowboard World Cup and the Freeride World Tour, among other major skiing and snowboarding events. Over the years, it has staged more than 100 FIS World Cup races.
