The design for the official stamp was revealed after President Bach addressed representatives of both houses of the country's parliament. It features portraits of President Bach and the founder of the modern Olympic Movement, Pierre de Coubertin.
At the ceremony, the design for the stamp was unveiled by the Vice-President of Uruguay and President of the General Assembly of both houses, Beatriz Argimón,and the Vice-President of the country's postal system El Correo, Julio Silveira, alongside President Bach. During the ceremony, the Vice-President of El Correo explained the motivation behind creating the stamp was to honour the Olympic Movement and the Uruguayan National Olympic Committee (NOC).
The President of the Uruguayan NOC, Julio Maglione, also took part in the celebrations.
President Bach told the audience that he was accepting this “high honour on behalf of the entire Olympic Movement”.
He told the Deputies and Senators present: “Sport can create a better world where we can all prosper, where all people are treated equally and there is no place for discrimination.” He added: “Sport can help all countries to build together a peaceful, healthy, egalitarian and sustainable world.” He also told them that the IOC was “concentrating its efforts on reinforcing the role of sport as an enabler of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals”.
