IOC President welcomes IOC Honour Member Dr Kissinger to the IOC

Today, IOC Honour Member and former US Secretary of State Dr Henry Kissinger was welcomed by IOC President Thomas Bach to The Olympic Museum and to the new Olympic House in Vidy, Lausanne.

Three days after his 96th birthday, Dr Kissinger was given a tour by the IOC President through the Museum and the new IOC headquarters. Dr Kissinger also was presented with the IOC President’s Trophy named “The Sky is the Limit”, and signed the Golden Book of the IOC. “The Olympic Movement has been an inspiration to me”, he wrote.

Dr Kissinger expressed his appreciation for the Olympic Games and the work of the IOC to unite the world in peaceful competition. The Games are part of our shared humanity, Dr Kissinger said. He appreciated the great dynamics the IOC demonstrates with its reforms and its new approach in recent years.

Dr Kissinger was a member of the Executive Committee of the IOC 2000 Commission, which proposed wide-ranging reforms to the IOC in 1999. He served as the Secretary of State of the United States of America and was a Nobel Peace Prize Laureate in 1973.

Also with Dr Kissinger was Eric Schmidt, the former Executive Chairman and CEO of Google.
