Get your skis on, it’s World Snow Day!
Whether it’s skiing, snowboarding, breathing the mountain air or an almighty snowball fight that gets your blood pulsing, this Sunday (18 January) the International Ski Federation (FIS) is encouraging everyone to get outdoors and enjoy the white fluffy stuff for World Snow Day!
With 645 events taking place in 45 countries, there are plenty of opportunities to get involved with many resorts offering free or discounted mountain passes, tuition and fun activities on the snow. Take a look at www.world-snow-day.com to find out how you can be part of it!
To build the excitement for the second Winter Youth Olympic Games just over one year away in Lillehammer, Norway in particular is setting a record with its “Apen Bakke” (Open Day) which will see 103 resorts open for free skiing and snowboarding to an estimated 130,000 participants.
World Snow Day is an annual snow festival offering a variety of activities for children and families. The main goal is to encourage everyone, and especially motivate youngsters aged 4 to 14, to explore, enjoy and experience the snow, not only to promote recreational skiing and snowboarding, but also to learn more about the environment.
This event is part of the International Ski Federation (FIS)’s “Bringing children to the snow” campaign, which shares a joint mission with the IOC’s Sport for All Commission to promote sport and physical activity to people of all ages and abilities across the world.
