George Eccles Salt Lake 2002 Olympic Winter Games Museum
The George Eccles Salt Lake 2002 Olympic Winter Games Museum offers visitors the opportunity to experience winter sports using state-of-the-art interactive and virtual exhibits.
Upon entering the museum, visitors are surrounded by banner art that decorated buildings in Salt Lake City during the 2002 Games. Athletes, volunteers and sports that were represented at the Games are honoured in dedicated displays, and one of the USA’s most extensive collections of ski and Olympic Winter Games memorabilia is on show.
Elsewhere, a comprehensive educational component gives schoolchildren a skiing-based foundation to learn about the water cycle, physics and Utah’s history.
The museum opened in 2005 and is funded by ‘bronze,’ ‘silver’ and ‘gold’ benefactors – categorised based on the amounts they donate. As of 2017, more than 8,000 students have participated in the museum’s benefactor-funded field-trip programme, enabling the museum to cover all field-trip costs to give many students their first mountain experience.
The museum is located inside the Alf Engen Ski Museum at the Utah Olympic Park. Admission is free.
