Arisa Trew’s season of success continued on Friday (20 September) as the Olympic champion qualified first for the women’s park skateboarding final at X Games Chiba 2024.
Trew’s first run of 85.66 was good enough to fling the Australian to the top of the leaderboard, over Paris 2024 Olympic Games bronze medallist Sky Brown on 84.66 and Tokyo 2020 champion Yosozumi Sakura.
Should she prevail on Sunday, the 14-year-old Trew can sling a third gold medal around her neck in the Northern Hemisphere summer, after Paris and the World Skate Games Italia 2024 in Rome, where she won the vert contest.
The half-Japanese rider enjoyed skating in front of a semi-home crowd and is looking for more of the same in two days’ time.
“It was really cool and I was really happy to see my results,” Trew told Olympics.com. “I just want to land some really good runs and just be happy with how I do.
“I made it to the finals which is what I wanted to do so I'm just excited to put out some other things in my run.
“It's really cool to be back in Japan and skating because Japan's super cool. It's one of my favorite countries. I guess it’s my home even though it’s not my home. It’s just really cool.”
On the men’s side, Paris 2024 runner-up Tom Schaar was the top qualifier (88.66) with Kieran Woolley (86.00) and home crowd favourite Nagahara Yuro (84.00) on his heels.
The defending champion and two-time Olympic gold medallist Keegan Palmer went through fourth. Palmer also won at Ventura in June and is angling for his third X Games gold here.
