Chloe Covell took her first steps to wash away a tearful Paris 2024 Olympic Games by qualifying top for the women’s street skateboarding final at X Games Chiba 2024 on Friday (20 September).

Covell was distant from the podium at her first Games, finishing last out of the eight finalists in Paris. On Friday, the Australian resembled her old self that made her a pre-Games favourite by topping the 10-woman elimination round with a 93.33 on her first run.

Trailing Covell in second was Ito Miyu from the host country (85.00). Paris 2024 silver medallist Akama Liz was third (84.00) with Olympic champion Yoshizawa Coco in fourth (80.33). The top eight qualified for Saturday’s final.

Covell said it’s time to move on and put Paris in the rearview mirror.

“Nothing really worked out,” said the 14-year-old, who couldn’t land a single trick in the Olympic final. “But yeah, I guess it was just a really amazing experience that I can definitely learn heaps from.

“I've been practicing really good and I just put down my hard run but I've still got a bit more in the bag that I can pull out for the finals.

“I've just been trying to progress all my tricks. I skated well today so hopefully I can tomorrow as well.”
