London Stadium

Built for the Olympic Games London 2012, London Stadium at Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park is home to both West Ham United Football Club and UK Athletics. The venue hosts sports events other than football, and staged matches of the 2015 Rugby World Cup, the Athletics World Championships in 2017 and Major League Baseball in 2019.

The stadium’s capacity was 80,000 during London 2012, but reduced to 60,000 to host football matches. The higher capacity is restored temporarily for concerts. Since its post-Games transformation, the venue has staged world-class entertainers in concerts through the summer months, and has welcomed international artists including Robbie Williams, Beyoncé, Jay Z, AC/DC, Guns N’ Roses and Foo Fighters.

West Ham United Football Club moved into the stadium in August 2016, signing a 99-year lease agreement as the anchor tenants and thus ensuring its operation for the years to come. The lease agreement has been the subject of some discussion in the UK.
