Chico Aura Dwi Wardoyo won his first-ever Badminton World Tour Super 500 title at the Malaysia Masters 2022 on Sunday (10 July)

The Indonesian needed just 45 minutes in Kuala Lumpur to overcome former champion Ng Ka Long Angus of Hong Kong, taking the final 22-20, 21-15.

A victory of this magnitude felt inevitable for Wardoyo, who has been excellent form this this season. The 24-year-old turned heads at the Badminton Asia Championships in May, where he took down four of the top players en route to the semi-finals.

Before defeating Angus in Malaysia, the World No. 45 edged out experienced campaigner Anthony Sinisuka Ginting 11-21 21-16 21-17, and came from behind in the semi-final to defeat China’s Lu Guang Zu 20-21, 23-21, 21-19.

Se Young defeats Olympic champion Yu Fei

In the women's singles final, South Korea’s An Se Young beat Tokyo 2020 Olympic champion Chen Yu Fei of China 21-17, 21-5.

Se Young, who also won the Korea Open in April, had not beaten world number three Yu Fei in their last seven meetings.

World No. 4 Se Young eliminated Indonesia's Gregoria Mariska Tunjung with a 21-18, 13-21, 21-8 win in the semi-finals.

Chen and Jia top women’s double podium

China's Chen Qing Chen and Jia Yi Fan of China overcame the Japanese pair of Nami Matsuyma and Chiharu Shida 21-11, 21-12 to win the women's doubles title.

There was plenty to cheer for the Asian powerhouse who then secured mixed doubles title when reigning Asian champions Zheng Si Wei and Huang Ya Qiong beat Indonesia’s Rinov Rivaldy and Pitha Haningtysa 21-12, 21-12 in 32 minutes.

In the men's doubles, Indonesia's Muhammad Rian Ardianto and Fajar Alfian edged out compatriots Mohammad Ahsan and Hendra Setiawan 21-12, 21-19.
