India bagged 15 medals - three gold, seven silver and five bronze - on a dramatic eighth day at the Asian Games 2023 on Sunday, where athletics headlined the success.
Avinash Sable shattered the Asian Games record as he comfortably raced to India’s first men’s 3000m steeplechase gold medal at the continental meet. Tajinderpal Singh Toor, meanwhile, defended his men’s shot put crown at Hangzhou.
Jyothi Yarraji clinched a dramatic women's 100m hurdles silver after China’s Wu Yanni, who originally finished second, was disqualified for a false start. Harmilan Bains in women's 1500m and Murali Sreeshankar in men's long jump also won silver. Ajay Kumar Saroj and Jinson Johnson were second and third in the men’s 1500m.
Discus thrower Seema Punia and heptathlon athlete Nandini Agasara settled for bronze medals.
History created in badminton, golf and shooting
The Indian men’s badminton team, despite losing a thrilling final against China, scripted Asian Games history, winning the first-ever men’s team silver.
Aditi Ashok also created history. She became the first Indian woman to win a medal at the Asian Games golf tournament after claiming silver in the women’s individual event.
Shooters won three medals, one of each colour, to wrap up their Hangzhou campaign with a record 22 medals, the highest in shooting in a single edition for India.
Boxer Nikhat Zareen, on the other hand, settled for a bronze medal in her debut Asian Games campaign.
The Indian women’s hockey team were held to a 1-1 draw against five-time Asian Games champions Republic of Korea. Archery also kicked off today.

Badminton: India win first-ever men's team silver
The Indian men's badminton team claimed their maiden silver medal at the Asian Games 2023 after losing the final 3-2 against China. It is only India's second silver medal at the Asian Games, following PV Sindhu's singles silver at the 2018 Asian Games in Jakarta. India had previously won three men's team bronze medals.
Lakshya Sen and Satwiksairaj Rankireddy / Chirag Shetty had handed India a 2-0 lead in the men's team badminton gold medal match. However, Li Shifeng beat former world No. 1 Kidambi Srikanth in straight games while Liu Yuchen / Ou Xuanyi made light work of Dhruv Kapila / Sai Pratheek to level the tie. Weng Hongyang won the decider 21-12, 21-4 against Mithun Manjunathan as China defended their title.
Basketball: China hand India first 5x5 defeat
The Indian women's basketball team lost 111-53 against China in the women's Group A match at Hangzhou 2023. All four quarters showcased a dominant attacking performance by the Chinese team.
Li Yueru from China scored 25 points, finishing as the top-scorer in the match. Four other players from the host nation also registered double figures. For India, Pushpa Senthil Kumar and Sanjana Ramesh notched 14 points, each, while Shireen Limaye scored 12.
After finishing second in the Group A standings, India will make the women's basketball quarter-finals at the Asian Games 2023.
Athletics: Jyothi Yarraji bags dramatic 100m hurdles silver
Ace Indian hurdler Jyothi Yarraji clocked 12.91 seconds in the women's 100m hurdles final at the Asian Games 2023. The 24-year-old athlete was initially awarded the bronze medal. However, China's Wu Yanni was disqualified after the race, upgrading Yarraji's medal to a silver.
Jyothi Yarraji and Wu Yanni were under review for false starts. The race, meanwhile, continued without any disqualification but the post-race investigation saw Wu Yanni lose her silver medal.
Lin Yuwei from China clinched the gold with a personal best time of 12.74 seconds. Japan's Yumi Tanaka, initially fourth, clocked 13.04 seconds and bagged the bronze medal.
Bridge: Men's team stay second in the qualification standings
India competed in all three bridge team second round events - men's, women's and mixed - today at the Asian Games 2023.
The Indian men's team are ranked second after eight matches with 252.35 points. The Indian mixed team, meanwhile, are fifth with 205.02 points after eight matches. The Indian women's team are ranked lowest, in seventh position, with only 99.27 points.
The final second round matches will be played tomorrow from 6:30 AM IST.
Badminton: China bounce back to force decider match
The Chinese men's badminton team, after conceding a two-match lead, came back to level the gold medal tie 2-2 at the Asian Games 2023. Li Shifeng beat former world No. 1 Kidambi Srikanth 24-22, 21-9. Liu Yuchen and Ou Xuanyi, meanwhile, claimed a 21-6, 21-15 win against Dhruv Kapila and Sai Pratheek.
Earlier, Lakshya Sen in singles followed by Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty in doubles had won the first two matches in the gold medal tie. Mithun Manjunathan plays Weng Hongyang in the deciding match of the India vs China men's badminton team final at Hangzhou.
Athletics: Medals in long jump, heptathlon, discus throw
Indian long jumper Murali Sreeshankar bagged the silver medal with a best of 8.19m at the Asian Games 2023. The 24-year-old jumped just 0.3m short of the gold medal winner Wang Jianan from China. Sreeshankar also won the silver medal at the 2022 Commonwealth Games. Jeswin Aldrin, meanwhile, finished eighth (7.76m) in the men's long jump final at Hangzhou.
In the women's heptathlon, Nandini Agasara, a U20 world championships finalist, won the 800m race with a personal best time of 2:15.33 and won the bronze medal after seven events. She notched personal best scores in the 200m race and javelin throw too. Swapna Barman fell just four points shy of her compatriot to finish fourth at the Asian Games 2023.
Seema Punia hurled a season-best 58.62m in the women's discus throw final, winning the bronze medal at Hangzhou 2023. China’s Bin Feng (67.93) won gold with an Asian Games record. The 40-year-old Seema Punia completed a hat-trick Asian Games medals - gold in 2014, bronze in 2018 and bronze in 2023.
Chess: R Praggnanandhaa, Koneru Humpy win in team matches
Indian chess Grandmasters Rameshbabu Praggnanandha and Koneru Humpy, both, won their games today, guiding the teams to victory in third round matches at the Asian Games 2023.
The Indian women's team beat Indonesia 3.5-0.5 while the Indian men's team won 3.0-1.0 against Kazakhstan. After three rounds, India are ranked second in the men's team event and atop the standing in the women's team event.
Both teams will be in round four action tomorrow, starting at 12:30 PM IST.
Athletics: Two silver and bronze bagged in 1500m races
India's Ajay Kumar Saroj and Jinson Johnson won the silver and bronze medals, respectively, in the men's 1500m final at the Asian Games 2023. Reigning Asian champion Ajay Kumar clocked 3:38.94 while the 2018 Asian Games gold medallist Jinson Johson finished with a time of 3:39.74. Qatar's Mohamad Algarni won gold with a season-best time of 3:38.36.
Meanwhile, Harmilan Bains added another medal to India's athletics tally, a silver, in the women's 1500m final at the Asian Games 2023. She clocked 4:12.74 in the final. The 25-year-old Harmilan returned from injury in February this year after missing the Commonwealth Games and the World Championships in 2022.
Volleyball: China win big against India in Pool A
The Indian women's volleyball team lost 75-27 against China in the Pool A match at the Asian Games 2023. India lost all three sets by a 25-9 scoreline to remain at the bottom of the points table.
India also lost against DPR Korea in the first women's volleyball match on Saturday at Hangzhou.
Athletics: Tajinderpal Singh Toor wins men's shot put gold
India's men's shot put athlete Tajinderpal Singh Toor threw 20.36m in the final and clinched the gold medal at the Asian Games 2023. The 28-year-old Tajinder successfully defended his title at the 2018 Asian Games. He also holds the Asian (21.77m) and Asian Games (20.75m) records.
Parduman Singh Brar, Joginder Singh, Bahadur Singh Chouhan and Tajinderpal Singh Toor - the Indian shot putters who have defended an Asian Games gold medal.
Sahib Singh, meanwhile, finished eighth with 18.62 meters after his six best attempts at Hangzhou. Saudi Arabia's Mohamed Daouda Tolo claimed the silver while China's Liu Yang settled for the bronze medal in the men's shot put final.
In the men's 200m semi-final, Amlan Borgohain clocked 21.03 in the semi-final and made it to the final as a non-automatic qualifier. The 25-year-old sprinter will be in action tomorrow at 5:25 PM IST.

Badminton: Satwik-Chirag give India 2-0 lead in men's team final
Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty, world No. 3 in men's doubles, won 21-15, 21-18 against Liang Weikeng and Wang Chang, ranked third in the world, in the second match of the men's team badminton gold medal tie at the Asian Games 2023. The Indian pair were in great rhythm from the get-go and controlled both games in the match to enable a 2-0 lead in the tie.
Earlier, Lakshya Sen beat Shi Yuqi in the singles match. Kidambi Srikanth, now, will take on Li Shifeng in the third match, with a gold medal on the cards if Srikanth wins.
Athletics: Avinash Sable bags 3000m steeplechase gold
Indian athlete Avinash Sable clocked 8:19.53 in the men's 3000m steeplechase final to win the gold medal at the Asian Games 2023. It is India's first track and field gold at Hangzhou. Meanwhile, Avinash Sable's time is also the new Asian Games record. The 29-year-old Indian runner had won the silver medal at the 2022 Commonwealth Games.
Japan's Ryoma Aoki and Seiya Sunada settled for the silver and bronze medals, respectively.
India's medal tally at the 19th Asian Games surged to 44 medals - 12 gold, 16 silver and 16 bronze.

Boxing: Nikhat Zareen loses semis to finish with bronze
Indian boxer Nikhat Zareen lost 3:2 on points against Thailand's Chuthamat Raksat in the women's 50kg semi-final at Hangzhou 2023. The two-time world champion Nikhat Zareen returned with a bronze medal in her Asian Games debut. Thai boxer Chuthamat Raksat came short in the first round but fought her way back in the final two rounds.
Preeti Pawar (women's 54kg), Lovlina Borgohain (women's 75kg) and Narender Berwal (men's +92kg) will continue to front India's boxing gold medal ambitions at the Asian Games 2023.
Badminton: Lakshya Sen wins opening match in men's team final
Lakshya Sen, ranked 14th in the world, beat world No. 6 Shi Yuqi 22-20, 14-21, 21-18 in the opening match of the India vs China men's team badminton gold medal match at the Asian Games 2023.
The 22-year-old Indian shuttler won a closely contested first game but went down in the second game. Lakshya Sen was 8-13 down in the third game, too, only to bounce back and win the match.
India can clinch their maiden Asian Games badminton gold medal if Satwiksairaj Rankireddy / Chirag Shetty beat Liang Weikeng / Wang Chang and Kidambi Srikanth seals victory over Li Shifeng in the next two matches. The final is, however, contested in the fastest to three wins format, with a maximum of five matches played.
Kabaddi kicks off tomorrow at Hangzhou
The Asian Games 2023 kabaddi competitions will start tomorrow and will run till October 7. Both Indian kabaddi teams are in Group A of their respective events.
India are the most successful Kabaddi team at the Asian Games. The men's team have clinched seven gold medals in eight editions while the women's team have won two gold medals in three meets. Iran, however, are the defending champion in both categories.

Squash: Anahat-Abhay seal back-to-back wins
Indian squash mixed doubles pair Anahat Singh and Abhay Singh beat Pakistan's Sadia Gul and Farhan Zaman 11-3, 11-2 in 16 minutes in their second Pool D match today. The Indian duo had also won in straight games against the Philippines pair of Yvonne Alyssa Dalida and David William Pelino in their first match.
Anahat and Abhay are atop the Pool D standings with a points difference of 27. The pair will feature against Thai pair Anantana Prasertratanakul and Arkaradet Arkarahirunya, who have lost two in a row, tomorrow at 10:00 AM IST.
IOA president PT Usha arrives in Hangzhou
The Indian Olympic Association (IOA) president Pilavullakandi Thekkeparambil Usha, known as India's queen of track and field, arrived at Hangzhou to support the country's athletes participating at the Asian Games 2023.
With 11 medals, PT Usha is the most decorated Indian athlete in the history of the Asian Games. She has taken part in five Asian Games and won at least one medal in four editions.

Archery: Ojas Deotale, Abhishek Verma make top four in men's compound qualification
Indian archer Ojas Deotale scored 709, including 61 10's and 31X's, to rank third while Abhishek Verma, courtesy of 60 10's and 28 X's, finished fourth in the men's compound individual qualification round. Prathamesh Jawkar qualified 10th and Rajat Chauhan was 16th in the same event.
Meanwhile, it was a less successful qualification round in women's recurve archery, wherein none of the Indian archers finished in the top 10. Ankita Bharat was 14th with a score of 649, while Bhajan Kaur (18th) and Simranjeet Kaur (19th) were level at 640. Prachi Singh, on the other hand, finished 55th with 593 scored.
Hockey: Republic of Korea vs India women's Pool A match ends draw
The Indian women's hockey team rescued a point against the Republic of Korea in the women's Pool A match at the Asian Games 2023. Hyejin Cho (12') scored for Korea and India's Navneet Kaur (44') netted the equaliser.
Team India remains on top of the Pool A points table after three matches, courtesy of a higher goal difference. Only the top two teams after the four group games will advance to the semi-finals.
India, seventh in the women’s hockey rankings, will play Hong Kong China in the final group match on Tuesday, October 3 at 7:45 AM IST.
Shooting: Kynan Chenai wins men's trap bronze
Indian shooter Kynan Chenai bagged the bronze medal after a score of 32 in the men's individual trap final at the Hangzhou 2023. Zoravar Singh Sandhu, meanwhile, finished fifth.
China's Qi Ying won the gold medal with a score of 46, just one point ahead of Kuwait's Talal Alrashidi who settled for silver. The Alrashidi father-son duo clinched one gold, won in men's skeet by Abdullah Alrashidi, and three silver medals at the Asian Games 2023.
Earlier today, the Indian men's trap team won the gold medal. India's shooting campaign concluded with 22 medals, the most by Indian shooters in an Asian Games edition.
Squash: Dipika Pallikal wins first mixed doubles match
Indian mixed doubles squash pair Dipika Pallikal and Harinder Pal Singh Sandhu won 11-4, 11-1 against Pakistan's Mehwish Ali and Noor Zaman in the Pool A match at the Asian Games 2023. The Indian duo had beaten the Republic of Korea team in their opening match earlier today.
Dipika Pallikal and Harinder Pal Singh Sandhu will continue their quest for a second medal at Hangzhou against Japan's Risa Sugimoto and Tomotaka Endo on Tuesday, October 3 at 8:30 AM IST.
Mahesh Mangaonkar, meanwhile, beat the Philippines' Jonathan Reyes in straight games in the men's singles round of 32. He will go up against Ryunosuke Tsukue of Japan in the pre-quarterfinal tomorrow.

Shooting: Manisha Keer finishes sixth in individual trap final
India's Manisha Keer became the first shooter to be eliminated in the women's individual trap final at the Asian Games 2023. The 24-year-old Indian shooter finished sixth with a score of 16.
Shooters Manisha Keer, Preeti Rajak and Rajeshwari Kumari had clinched the silver medal in the team event earlier today. India have won 21 medals in shooting at Hangzhou.
Canoe sprint: Soniya Devi makes the K1 500m final
India's Soniya Devi Phairembam clocked 2:16.435 in the women's kayak single 500m semi-final and advanced into the final at the Asian Games 2023. The 27-year-old Soniya Devi, featuring in her third Asian Games, will race in the women's K1 500m final on Tuesday, October 3 at 7:45 AM IST.
However, Megha Pradeep failed to make the C1 200m final after her fourth-placed finish in the semi-final today.
Boxing: Parveen Hooda assured medal after quarter-final win
Indian boxer Parveen Hooda beat Uzbekistan's Sitora Turdibekova 5:0 on points in the women's 57kg quarter-final at the Asian Games 2023. The victory assured Parveen a medal at Hangzhou while India secured an Olympic quota in the category for Paris 2024.
NOCs have exclusive authority for the representation of their respective NOC teams at the Olympic Games. Athletes' participation at the Paris Games will depend on their NOC selecting them to represent their delegation at Paris 2024.
Nikhat Zareen (women's 50kg), Preeti Pawar (women's 54kg), Lovlina Borgohain (women's 75kg) and Narender Berwal (men's +92kg) are also assured medals at the 19th Asian Games.
A world championships bronze medallist, Parveen Hooda will fight in the semi-final on Wednesday, October 4 at 11:30 AM IST.
On the other hand, Jaismine Lamboriya went down to Won Ungyong from the Democratic People's Republic of Korea in the women's 60kg quarter-final. Ungyong landed multiple blows on Jaismine, who won round 1, in the second round, resulting in the referee stopping the contest with one second to go. The 22-year-old Indian boxer failed to secure an Olympic quota in the category.

Sepaktakraw: Japan beat India in men's quadrant opener, women's team lose two in two
Team India, led by Niken Singh Khangembam, lost 21-14, 21-16 against Japan in the men's quadrant sepaktakraw Group B match. The Indian team will go up against Singapore at 7:30 AM IST and the Philippines at 12:30 PM IST tomorrow.
Meanwhile, China beat India 21-15, 21-14 in the second quadrant match today, which was India's second defeat today. The Indian women's team will play against the Philippines tomorrow in their final Group B match, starting at 12:30 PM IST. Only a top two finish will ensure their place in the semi-final.
Badminton: HS Prannoy injured, to miss men's team final
The Indian men's badminton team will play for their first-ever gold medal today at the Asian Games 2023. However, the World Championships bronze medallist HS Prannoy will miss the final due to an injury. Mithun Manjunathan, instead, will feature in the men's singles clash.

Golf: Anirban Lahiri, men's team fail to win medal
Indian golfer Anirban Lahiri surged five places today but finished T12 in the men's golf individual standings at the Asian Games 2023. The two-time Olympian scored 274, -14 to par, in the four rounds at Hangzhou.
Khalin Joshi (T27), SSP Chawrasia (29th) and Shubhankar Sharma (32nd) also did not contest for medals. In the men's team event, India finished seventh with a 34 under par score. The Republic of Korea team won gold while Thailand and Hong Kong China bagged the silver and bronze medals, respectively.
Squash: Anahat-Abhay win mixed doubles opener
Abhay Singh and Anahat Singh, India's mixed doubles pair in Pool D, won 11-7, 11-5 against David William Pelino and Yvonne Alyssa Dalida at Hangzhou 2023. Earlier, Dipika Pallikal and Harinder Pal Singh Sandhu also won their opening match.
Pakistan's Farhan Zaman and Sadia Gul are next up for Abhay Singh and Anahat Singh today at 3:00 PM IST today.
Mahesh Mangoankar will also kick off his men's singles campaign today against the Philippines' Jonathan Reyes at 1:30 PM IST.
Shooting: Trap teams win gold and silver
Shooters Kynan Darius Chenai, Joravar Singh Sandhu and Prithviraj Tondaiman scored 361 points in the men's team trap event and clinched the gold medal at the Asian Games 2023. Kuwait, who finished 13 points behind, bagged the silver while China settled for bronze. Kynan and Joravar, meanwhile, also qualified for the men's trap individual final.
India won the silver medal in the women's trap team event, courtesy of Rajeshwari Kumari, Manisha Keer and Preeti Rajak. The Chinese team broke the world record to claim gold and Kazakhstan completed the podium with a bronze medal.
However, Preeti and Rajeshwari did not finish in the women's individual final qualification spots. Manisha Keer won the shoot-off for a place in the final.
The men's trap individual final will begin at 1:30 PM IST while the women's final starts at 12:30 PM IST today.
The Olympic Council of Asia's Acting President Randhir Singh was present to see his daughter Rajeshwari Kumar clinch the team silver. Randhir Singh, meanwhile, had won three shooting medals at the Asian Games - trap gold in 1978, trap team silver and individual bronze in 1982.

Golf: Aditi Ashok settles for silver, first Indian women's medal-winner
Ace Indian golfer Aditi Ashok won the silver medal in the individual women's golf event with a score of 17 under par at the Asian Games 2023. She is the first-ever Indian women golfer to win a medal at the Asian Games.
The two-time Olympian, who narrowly missed out on a medal in Tokyo, had a seven-shot lead ahead of the final round. However, Aditi hit four bogeys and a double bogey today, conceding the gold medal by two shots to Thailand's Arpichaya Yubol. The Republic of Korea's Hyunjo surged six positions, clinching the bronze medal.
Pranavi Urs finished four under par to rank 13th while Avani Prashanth finished three over par to be tied at 18th position. The Indian women's golf team finished fourth, three shots short of a bronze medal.
Squash: Dipika-Harinder win first mixed doubles clash
Indian squash mixed doubles pair Dipika Pallikal and Harinder Pal Singh Sandhu won 11-2, 11-5 against Hwayeong Eum and Jaejin Yoo in the Pool A match at the Asian Games 2023. The Indian duo will take on Pakistan's Mehwish Ali and Noor Zaman next at 1:30 PM IST today.
Anahat Singh and Abhay Singh will also begin their mixed doubles Hangzhou campaign today. They will play Yvonne Alyssa Dalida and David William Pelino of the Philippines at 10:00 AM IST, followed by Pakistan's Sadia Gul and Farhan Zaman at 3:00 PM IST.

Archery: Jyothi Surekha Vennam tops women's compound qualification
Indian archer Jyothi Surekha Vennam finished the women's compound qualification round with a score of 704, including 57 10s and 34 Xs, at Hangzhou 2023. The reigning world champion is top of the standings heading into the elimination rounds.
Aditi Gopichand Swami is ranked fourth after 50 10s and 14 Xs took her score to 696. Parneet Kaur (687) is 12th and Avneet Kaur (685) is 15th while the Indian team is also atop with 2087 points.
In the men's recurve qualification round, Atanu Das ranked fourth with 678 after hitting 36 10s and 14 Xs. Dhiraj Bommadevara, meanwhile, is seventh with 675. India are third in the team standings with a score of 2022.
Equestrian: Ashish Limaye eliminated in cross country
India's Ashish Limaye and horse Willy Be Dun, who led on Saturday, faced elimination in the equestrian eventing cross country round at the Asian Games 2023.
On the other hand, Apurva Dabhade finished sixth with 29.60 penalty points while Vikas Kumar was ranked 16th with 41.20 penalty points. The Indian team are fifth, the last position, in the standings. The lower the penalty points, the higher the rank in this event.
The eventing jumping team and individual final will begin tomorrow at 7:00 AM IST, following the horse inspection at 5:30 AM IST.
"Definitely not" - Rohan Bopanna's version
Indian tennis ace Rohan Bopanna clinched the mixed doubles gold medal, alongside Rutuja Bhosale, in the Asian Games 2023. The 43-year-old had won the men's doubles gold medal in the 2018 Asian Games.
Bopanna, after winning at Hangzhou, stated that will feature in the 2026 Asian Games at Nagoya with a hat-trick on the cards. Just a reminder, he would have turned 47!
Sepaktakraw: Lao PDR beat India in women's Group B
The Indian women's quadrant sepaktakraw team lost 2-0 against Lao People's Democratic Republic in the Group B match at Hangzhou 2023. Lao PDR clinched the first set 21-14, followed by a 21-16 success in the second to win the match in 46 minutes. India will go up against China in their second match today at 12:30 PM IST.
India vs Japan men's quadrant match is also on the schedule today at 11:30 AM IST.
Roller skating: Indians miss out on speed skating 1000m medal

Aryanpal Singh Ghuman, meanwhile, finished last in the men's final at Hangzhou. Sanjana Bathula was knocked out in the women's semi-final.
Athletics: Amlan Borgohain through to 200m semis
Indian sprinter Amlan Borgohain achieved direct qualification for the men's 200m semi-finals at the Asian Games 2023. The 25-year-old ranked third in his heat, eighth overall, with a time of 21.08 seconds. His personal best time is 20.52 seconds.
The men's 200m semi-finals, featuring Amlan Borgohain, will kick off at 5:25 PM IST today.
In the women's heptathlon javelin throw event, Swapna Barman's throw flew 45.13 while Nandini Agasara notched a personal best of 39.88m. Barman and Agasara are ranked fourth and fifth, respectively, ahead of the 800m race, the final event, at 6:15 PM IST.
Kurash: Aditya Dhopaokar knocked out in pre-quarters
India's Aditya Dhopaokar lost 10-0 to Hassan Baiqara Rasooli of Afghanistan in the men's -81kg round of 16 bout at the Asian Games 2023. There are no repechage rounds in the sport, meaning the defeat ended Dhopaokar's Hangzhou campaign.
Pincky Balhara (women's -52kg) lost in the quarterfinal on Saturday while Keshav (men's -66kg) and Suchika Tariyal (women's -52kg) were knocked out in their opening bouts.
Athletics: Jyothi Yarraji fails to make 200m final
Indian sprinter Jyothi Yarraji finished third in heat 1, clocking 23.78, in the women's 200m round 1 at the Asian Games 2023. An Asian Championships women's 200m silver medallist, Yarraji could not secure a place in the final, even via non-automatic qualification.
The 24-year-old Jyothi Yarraji will run in the 100m hurdles final today 6:45 PM IST.
Nandini Agasara made a season-best 5.94m jump and Swapna Barman leapt 5.71m in the long jump event of the women's heptathlon event at the 19th Asian Games. Agasara rose to third in the overall standings while Barman stays in sixth place. The javelin throw is the next event on the agenda.
Canoe sprint: Megha Pradeep, Soniya Devi advance to semis
The 18-year-old Megha Pradeep finished fifth in heat 1 with a time of 56.705 seconds in the women's canoe single 200m race at Hangzhou 2023. While the top three in the heat made the finals, Megha will race in the semi-final for a spot in the medal event.
The women's canoe single 200m semi-final will start today at 12:30 PM IST. Meanwhile, the final race will be on Tuesday, October 3 at 7:30 AM IST.
India's Soniya Devi Phairembam made the women's kayak single 500m semi-final with a time of 2:17.351 in the heats. The semi-final race today will begin at 12:40 PM IST while the final race is scheduled for Tuesday, October 3 at 7:45 AM IST.
Roller skating: Four Indians make speed skating 1000m sprint semis
India's Karthika Jagadeeswaran clocked 1:44.957 while Sanjana Bathula clocked 1:45.435 in the women's speed skating 1000m sprint heats to qualify for the semi-final at the Asian Games 2023. Meanwhile, Vikram Rajendra Ingale and Aryanpal Singh Ghuman also made the semi-finals in the men's event with times of 1:32.598 and 1:42.708, respectively.
The speed skating 1000m sprint semi-finals will begin today at 7:15 AM IST, followed by the finals at 8:10 AM IST.

Golf final round begins; archery, shooting and athletics follow
Final round action got underway for the men’s and women’s golfers. Aditi Ashok and Anirban Lahiri vie for individual and team medals.
Trap shooters will take aim in four medal events, starting at 6:30 AM IST. At the same time, archers will make their maiden Asian Games 2023 bow.
Swapna Barman and Nandini Agasara will compete in the women’s heptathlon events from 6:30 AM IST too.
Equestrian, roller skating, sepaktakraw, bridge and kurash are also on the early agenda on Saturday.
