The Indian men’s badminton team booked its place in the final with a thrilling 3-2 win over the Republic of Korea on Saturday. Earlier, India blanked Nepal 3-0 to assure themselves a medal at Hangzhou 2023.

China, meanwhile, beat Chinese Taipei 3-1 and Japan 3-1 in the quarter-final and semi-finals, respectively, to enter the final against India.

The Indian men’s team, spearheaded by HS Prannoy, will be eyeing its first-ever Asian Games gold medal in badminton in Hangzhou.

India have won a total of 10 medals – one silver and nine bronze – at the Asian Games. However, a gold medal has eluded India since the sport made its debut at the continental showpiece in 1962.

India, the Thomas Cup 2022 champions, will bank on the likes of Commonwealth Games champion Lakshya Sen, former world No. 1 Kidambi Srikanth and men’s doubles world No. 2 pair of Chirag Shetty and Satwik Rankireddy to create history.

China, meanwhile, have won the men’s team event six times at the Asian Games and are the defending champions.
