Julien Alfred bests Sha'Carri Richardson in women's 100m, Erriyon Knighton finishes second in men's 200m at Istvan Gyulai Memorial

Richardson, the newly-crowned U.S. champion in the event ran 10.97 to finish second while Knighton's 20.05 came up short against Alexander Ogando's 19.99

Saint Lucia's Julien Alfred stunned American Sha'Carri Richardson Tuesday (18 July) to win the women's 100m in 10.89 at the Istvan Gyulai Memorial in Székesfehérvár, Hungary.

Richardson, the 23-year-old who is coming off big wins at the U.S. championships and against Jamacian powerhouse Shericka Jackson at the Diamond League in Poland, finished second in 10.97.

On Sunday (16 July), Richardson ran a 10.76 to defeat Jackson by just .02 seconds.

In Hungary, Jackson won the women's 200m ahead of Ireland's Rhasidat Adeleke, 22.02 to 22.36. Jackson is the reigning World champion in the event.

2022 World 200m bronze medallist Erriyon Knighton of the United States, like Richardson, finished second in his signature race with a time of 20.05.

The Dominican Republic's Alexander Ogando, a Tokyo 2020 silver medallist in the 4x400m mixed relay, claimed victory clocking 19.99.
