Sha'Carri Richardson toppled Shericka Jackson in a thrilling finale to the Silesia Diamond League meeting in Poland on Sunday (16 July).

The American charged late to win the 100m in 10.76 and defeat the fastest woman in the world this year.

Jakob Ingebrigtsen provided the other highlight, clocking a new European record 3:27.14 in the 1500m, on a day which saw a succession of meeting records.

There was a world lead for Yulimar Rojas with the triple jump queen sailing out to 15.18m in the sixth and final round.

Japan's Kitaguchi Haruka also produced a world lead with her final effort in the javelin, throwing a national record of 67.04m.

A day after celebrating his 31st birthday, world record holder Wayde van Niekerk showed he was right back to his best after years of injury struggles with victory in the 400m.

And there was a first defeat of 2023 for men's 100m world champion Fred Kerley who was edged out by South Africa's Akani Simbine.

Read on to find out what happened, as it happened, at the eighth Diamond League meeting of the year.

18:10 Sha'Carri Richardson lays down marker with 100m victory over Shericka Jackson

A superb women's 100m rounded off the track action in Silesia with Sha'Carri Richardson just getting the better of Shericka Jackson.

Home favourite Ewa Swoboda made her customary fast start, and Jackson eased past her at the halfway stage to set herself up for the win.

But USA's Richardson kept her form and finished off her race strongly, going in front just metres from the line to triumph in 10.76.

Jamaican star Jackson (10.78) was second with Swoboda delighting the home fans by breaking 11 seconds for the first time in 10.94.

Kitaguchi Haruka certainly saved the best for last in the women's javelin.

The Japanese took the lead in the fifth round with 65.82m before going even further in the sixth, a new world lead and national record of 67.04m.

Australia's Mackenzie Little was second with 64.50m ahead of New Zealand's Tori Peeters (62.73m).

There was also a dramatic conclusion to the men's high jump as Olympic champion Mutaz Essa Barshim went over 2.36m at the first attempt after two failures at 2.34m.

The Qatari celebrated joyfully as he finished ahead of Gianmarco Tamberi, the man he shared gold with at Tokyo 2020, with Germany's Tobias Potye third.

Having won the men's pole vault, Armand Duplantis had three failures at what would have been a new world lead of 6.13m.

17:50 New European 1500m record for Jakob Ingebrigtsen

Jakob Ingebrigtsen showed again why he is the man to beat over 1500m.

Norway's Olympic champion was quite superb as he eased away from Abel Kipsang to win in a new European record of 3:27.14, putting him fourth on the all-time list.

The world record of 3:26.00 was set by Hicham El Guerrouj in July 1998.

Armand Duplantis has completed victory in the pole vault, clearing 6.01m at the first attempt, and the bar has been raised to 6.13m.

He was the only man to go over with Sam Kendricks and Chris Nilsen both bowing out.

Kendricks took second with 5.91m as Nilsen elected to pass after his one failure following a best effort of 5.81m.

Earlier, Kenya's Mary Moraa showed her tactical and finishing strength again in the 800m, coming clear in the last 50 metres to win in a meeting record of 1:56.85.

Former world champion Halimah Nakaayi was second in a new Ugandan national record of 1:57.78, just ahead of Jamaica's Natoya Goule-Toppin.

Next up is the final event of the track, the women's 100m which sees Shericka Jackson and Sha'Carri Richardson go head-to-head.

17:25 Wayde van Niekerk on song in 400m

World record holder Wayde van Niekerk showed his solid form with a wide-margin win in the 400m.

With Zambia's Muzala Samukonga, the fastest man in the world this year, pulling up injured just after the start, the South African had hurdles specialist Alison dos Santos for company going into the final bend.

But the Brazilian faded and van Niekerk won in a meeting record of 44.08, his best time of 2023, with Botswana's Bayapo Ndori rattling home to equal his personal best of 44.61 in second.

Earlier, Soufiane El Bakkali ran out a comfortable winner of the 3000m steeplechase.

The Moroccan cruised clear to win in 8:03.16, another meeting record, with Kenyan's Abraham Kibiwot and Leonard Bett some five seconds adrift.

There are just three men left in the pole vault - world record holder Armand Duplantis and USA pair Sam Kendricks and Chris Nilsen.

Kendricks, who was world champion in 2017 and 2019, won't be at the world championships in Budapest next month having finished only fourth in his national trials. But he showed his form with a first-time clearance at 5.81m.

Duplantis also went over at the first time of asking with Nilsen successful on the second attempt.

17:00 Yulimar Rojas on top once again

Yulimar Rojas continued her dominance of the women's triple jump.

The Venezuelan superstar was not quite at her best until the final round when she produced a world lead of 15.18m to score a comfortable victory.

Maryna Bekh-Romanchuk of Ukraine was second with 14.70m ahead of Cuba's Leyanis Perez (14.67m).

Ethiopia's Freweyni Hailu came home strongest in the women's 3000m, winning in a time of 8:26.62.

Lilian Rengeruk of Kenya was second with Lemlem Hailu third.

World champion Tobi Amusan overcame a slow start to take the 100m hurdles in a season's best 12.34, which equalled the meeting record.

The Nigerian world record holder came through strongly at the end to outrace USA's Kendra Harrison (12.35) and 2019 world champion Nia Ali (12.38).

16:30 Fred Kerley suffers first defeat of 2023 as Akani Simbine wins 100m

There was a blanket finish in the men's 100m with South Africa's Akani Simbine taking victory in 9.97.

Cravont Charleston led for most of the way but Simbine surged late to win from reigning world champion Fred Kerley.

Cameroon's Emmanuel Eseme took third ahead of Charleston with just two-hundredths covering the first four.

Earlier, shot put king Ryan Crouser was victorious once more with 22.55m.

The women's high jump went to Iryna Geraschenko who had a best clearance of 1.98m and won on countback from Australia's Nicola Olyslagers and fellow Ukrainian Yuliia Levchenko.

In the first event on the track, the women's 400m, there was a home triumph for Natalia Kaczmarek in a new personal best and meeting record of 49.48.

Lieke Klaver (49.81) also set a personal best in second ahead of Dominican Republic's Olympic silver medallist Marileidy Paulino.
