Hungary's two-time Olympian Maria Erdi produced a fine medal race performance to take dinghy gold at the 2023 Sailing World Championships on Sunday (20 August).
Trailing Maud Jayet going into the finale in the Hague, the two sailors and Denmark's Anne-Marie Rindom battled it out for the podium placings.
Erdi, 25, finished third in the medal race which - as it counted double - added six points to her total to leave her on 75 in the ILCA 6 class competition.
Jayet was seventh on the day to end on 79 points with Rindom's sixth place seeing her take bronze on 81.
The top 15 sailors from different nations, with the exception of France who have automatic quota places as hosts, each earned a quota for their National Olympic Committees (NOCs) at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
As National Olympic Committees have the exclusive authority for the representation of their respective countries at the Olympic Games, athletes' participation at the next Games depends on their NOC selecting them to represent their delegation at Paris 2024.
Beckett snatches silver as Wearn completes men's victory
Earlier, reigning Olympic dinghy champion Matt Wearn successfully rounded off his world title campaign.
The Australian Tokyo 2020 laser champion had an unassailable lead going into the men's ILCA 7 medal race.
With gold decided, all the attention was on the dual for silver between New Zealand's George Gautrey and Michael Beckett of Great Britain.
Beckett trailed the New Zealander by one point going into the climax, but a second-place finish saw him end on 96 points with Gautrey's fifth meaning he had to settle for the bronze on 101.
It was some consolation from Beckett who had been jibed out of contention for gold by Wearn on Saturday.
Beckett's previous disqualification during the regatta left him vulnerable to a high score, and the Australian - who knew he would be able to drop a poor finish - employed match-race tactics to ensure the Brit could not compete with the fleet.
