It would be fair to say that in the year since Sky Brown won her first X Games gold a lot has changed.

In just 12 short months the 14-year-old British skateboarder has rocketed from prodigious talent to global superstar after she clinched bronze in the inaugural women’s park event at Tokyo 2020 in 2021.

Her winning smile, supportive nature and classy bag of tricks went some way to scoring her legions of new fans across the world as they tuned in to watch Olympic skateboarding for the first time.

But what stood out more than anything was Brown’s tenacity.

Her tenacity, first and foremost, to even be on a skateboard after a horrific half-pipe crash two months before the Games left her unresponsive with a multiple-fractured skull and broken arm.

And then the perseverance she flashed during her final podium-or-bust run when she attempted, and successfully landed, the kick-flip indy that had caused her to fall on her previous attempts.

Brown’s trust in herself and her abilities not only saw her awarded with the bronze medal in Japan but was later heralded by a Laureus Award for World Comeback of the Year, underlining her achievement.

Just what Brown will bring to Vista for this year’s Summer X Games is the question on everyone’s lips.

As well as helping out Google, the young skateboarder has spent the last few months hitting the waves on her surfboard and hanging out with her other star skate friends: Leticia Bufoni and Rayssa Leal.

While she may have been busy one thing her competitors will be certain of is that whatever Brown lays down during the competition, she will have practised it – a lot.

With Olympic champion and X Games Chiba 2022 gold medallist Yosozumi Sakura due to join the line-up in California alongside Tokyo 2020 silver medallist Hiraki Kokona, this weekend's women's park contest is sure to be one to watch.
